Tuten, LPNET deserving of our thanks

Many experts contend the U.S. is losing its decades long “War On Drugs.”
But that doesn’t appear to be the case in Lincoln Parish.
This time last summer the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team officers arrested more than 30 people as part of a string operation called “Operation Summer Heat.”
Other LPNET pushes such as “Operation Lincoln Round-Up,” which started late last year, helped put many other suspected dealers behind bars, making our streets safer.

Parish diamond teams rank high

A national poll verifies the success of three Lincoln Parish baseball programs for the 2011 season.
Ruston, Choudrant and Cedar Creek are listed in the Top 50 for schools located in the South Regional of a poll announced by the Prep Sports Focus newsletter.

‘Shack’ Harris blazed legendary trail

GRAMBLING — James “Shack” Harris has had his share of accomplishments, far from home.
After all, he’s the first African-American quarterback to start an NFL playoff game, and the first to be named Pro Bowl MVP. As a front-office member, he helped craft a Super Bowl-winning roster for the Baltimore Ravens.

Southwest Regionals set for Tech

Louisiana Tech University’s baseball diamond will be the site once again for the 2011 Big League Southwest Regional tournament.
The double elimination tourney will begin on Friday and is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

Mrs. Edith Louise Reis, age 87 of Farmerville, died July 10, 2011 in Ruston.  She was born July 9, 1924 in Palmyra, New Jersey to Gus Feldmann and May Copeland Feldmann.
