Silmon, Burnham capture final Fishers of Men crown

The Louisiana North Central division of the Fishers of Men recently brought their season to a close with a climactic finish that rivaled the suspense of a Bassmaster event.
As the Ouachita River tournament neared its finale, anglers brought the day’s catch to the scales, each vying for the tournament win as well a bid to the regional championship. For the teams of John Ross/Patrick Daniel and Jerry Silmon/Chris Burnham, the stakes were even higher, as these teams were battling it out in the season points race, of which the winners would advance to the national championship.

Youth key to outdoors’ future

Kids growing up at the time I did had no problem getting involved with the outdoors during summers. It’s what we did. There wasn’t a X-Box or an I-Pod to be found anywhere. We didn’t need grown-ups or gadgets to provide our entertainment. We just grabbed a sharp shooter shovel and a Prince Albert tobacco can, dug us some earthworms and went fishing.
Today’s parents who grew up the way I did are usually the ones who see the importance of getting their offspring involved in outdoors stuff. They take their kids with them to the woods and on the water, allowing them to experience some of those valuable things that molded them.

The Lincoln Parish 4-H archery team recently had representation in the North Louisiana Regional Archery Competition held in Grand Cane. Tech seeks equipment workers

The Louisiana Tech University equipment staff is looking for student assistants to serve on their staff for the 2011-12 school year.

BAC squad gains awards

Freestyle relay team sets record at Biloxi meet

BILOXI, Miss.. — The Bulldog Aquatic Club’s 13-14 year old boys’ 200-meter freestyle relay team set a new meet record and captured another first place in the 200 medley relay to lead the local swim team to a No. 11 finish among 22 teams at the recent Splashin’ the Coast Invitational.
