A cornucopia of sports observations and offerings while wondering which pro sports league will be next to call a lockout:

Effective July 1, the Citifinancial office located at 939 N. Trenton St. in Ruston officially changed its name to OneMain Financial.
All 1,300 CitiFinancial full-service network branches in the U.S. were officially renamed OneMain Financial.
The company believes the new name will help distinguish the consumer lending arm of Citigroup from other Citi holdings. Company officials say the new name better fits the community lender and better describes the services it provides customers.

Parish has strong ties to sports shrine

If the month of June is closed out, then it must mean that another athletic legend from Lincoln Parish has been presented with a prestigious honor in the state.
That’s exactly what occurred in Natchitoches last weekend when the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame held its annual induction ceremonies.

In God we trust, all others pay cash

in
Shadoin, Rob.jpg

As I join many of you in wishing the United States of America, our beloved homeland, a happy 235th birthday on this long weekend, I got to thinking about our nation, its beginnings, its struggles, its triumphs and its tragedies. I’ve told you before, I love where I live, and I’m not talking just about in the United States, but I love being from Ruston, Lincoln Parish, North Louisiana, Louisiana itself, and enjoy the fruits and liberties of being an American. Wow, talk about God’s grace and favor! Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’ve been blessed with the same.

Flying high with Billy Baskin

in
Rogers, Randy.jpg

At my ripe old age of 55, I never thought I would meet someone and think I’d want to be like them when I grow up. Mr. Billy Baskin was the exception.
After she read the piece I wrote about Robert C. Snyder, Barbara Lipscomb sent me an e-mail suggesting that I interview Billy. “You could write a book about him,” she wrote. She was right. I owe her one.

Citizen calls for accountability for GSU

in

Gov. Edwin Edwards once stated: “Louisiana people do not have anything between their ears.”
Concerning Grambling State University this quote seems to be true. Forever the headlines read “Audit reveals GSU accounting problems.”  Same old thing!  The only change from year to year is the amount missing. Understated, overstated, etc. I know of a former member of the auditor’s office who stated “we try to do an audit but wind up throwing our hands up in disgust because you can’t make heads or tails out of their records.”  That was 40 years ago.  Nothing has changed. Same old story. “Audit reveals accounting problems.”  This year there was more than $1.6 million in items that could not be located. A total of $122,504 was removed from the property records because items/property hasn’t been located for three years.

A pastor's patriotic perspective

Holloway, Mike.jpg

I am proud to be an American because I believe this is the greatest nation in the world and freedom is known throughout this land. Our freedom of religion is probably our greatest freedom to me, because it meant that our forefathers could come to a country and worship according to their understanding of the Word of God.
