James Philip (Pat) Ryan

Graveside services for James Philip (Pat) Ryan, 75, of Atlanta, GA will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery in the family plot next to his parents in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Rev. Frank Folino, OFM will officiate the service. Mr. Ryan passed away on June 21, 2011 after a stroke. He was born in Ruston, LA., the son of Robert Edmond Ryan and Mable Clair Warren Ryan, on January 20, 1936. His father was a Civil Engineer; and supervised the building of the secret German POW Camp in Ruston.

Funeral services for L. Victor Colvin, 75, of Ruston will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2011at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Rev. Dale Oden and Dr. Andy Johnson will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Unionville Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Colvin was born on February 23, 1936 in Ruston and died on July 2, 2011 in Ruston. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas R. Colvin, Sr. and Bertha Elaine Goodjoin Colvin; sister, Fannie Mae Colvin Lann; brothers, C. W.

School board will vote on Tuesday

Lincoln Parish School Board members will convene for their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
At this time, board members are expected to approve a recommendation for a new principal of Ruston Elementary to replace Pam Harris, who retired effective June 30.

Proposed dance studio, parking plight pondered

When Ruston aldermen meet on Tuesday, they are expected to consider a request that would bring in a new dance studio.
Robert Flournoy put in an application for a conditional use permit that would allow Darleine Milford to lease 712 square feet of space inside a building Flournoy owns at 414 W. California Ave. The proposed dance studio would be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and offer lessons in various forms of dance. No renovations are reported to be necessary to open the dance studio.

A tasty experiment spices up schools

Summer school students were the subjects of an experiment of taste every day when they visited the lunchroom.
Throughout the summer, students and professors from Louisiana Tech University’s Nutrition and Dietetics Department worked with the school lunch staff to improve the recipes for both taste and nutrition.
