Teresa Weatherspoon (right), head coach of Louisiana Tech University’s Lady Techsters and a 2010 inductee into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, exchanges high fives with a camper during one of the program’s summer instructional clinics.
Weatherspoon, staff members and other instructors have been teaching participants a variety of techniques and fundamentals in the sport during the annual sessions held at the Thomas Assembly Center.

Mize paid tribute at Bulldogs’ track reunion

His “boys” still remember “Gentleman Jim.”
That’s Jim Mize, the former head track and field coach at Louisiana Tech University and beloved by admirers throughout Ruston, the state and particularly by those who competed for him.
That was certainly the case recently at the Squire Creek Golf and Country Club in Choudrant, where a group of ex-Bulldogs’ track members, coaches and others associated with the program held a reunion/tribute for Mize.

Brantley named head grid coach for Madison team

Johnathan Brantley has realized a dream come true.
When the former Grambling High School and Grambling State University football player entered the coaching profession, his long-range goal was to become a head coach.
Now, he’s there.

Jason Morgan has good “vibes” about competing in his native country’s annual championship track and field meet this weekend.
The reason: the former Louisiana Tech University standout has had a productive spring and summer, plus feeling “jipper” about his workouts.
All of which could very well help lead him to a seventh discus title at the Jamaican National Championships.

Man arrested in Tallulah homicides

A joint investigation between Louisiana State Police Detectives, the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Department, the Tallulah Police Department, the 6th District Attorney’s Office and the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of a suspect in the murder of two Tallulah women.
Walter Walker, 27, from Lake Providence, has been arrested and booked for two counts of second degree murder at the Madison Parish Jail.

Paul Charles Buske

Memorial services for Paul Charles Buske, 40, Lawrence, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston, La. Mr. Buske died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 14, 1970, in Bloomington, Ill., the son of John M. and Elizabeth “Beth” A. Duguid Buske. He graduated from Paris, Ill. High School, and later attended Louisiana Tech. Mr. Buske held various positions with the Nestle Company for 15 years. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed golf and fishing. He married Megan N. Smith on June 19, 2004, in Greensboro, N.C.
