NLMC carries goods to Joplin tornado victims

Even in the age of high definition television, there’s still nothing like experiencing something firsthand and being able to feel the surrounding atmosphere — seeing it in living color.
Northern Louisiana Medical Center registered nurse John Lee and family got to do exactly that last week as they hauled a trailer full of relief supplies to victims of the recent tornado in Joplin, Mo.

Arts, crafts submissions sought

Works chosen to be displayed in Piney Hills Gallery

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council is currently accepting submissions from artists and crafts persons to exhibit in the Piney Hills Gallery.
The consignment gallery located at the Dixie Center for the Arts (212 N. Vienna St. in Ruston) features fine arts and crafts of many genres.
Artists who are interested should submit two images of their work, artist statement and arts résumé via email to nclac5@gmail.com or by mail to NCLAC, PO Box 911, Ruston, LA, 71273.

Join Juneteenth celebrations

One of many famous quotes from Spanish philosopher George Santayana is “Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it.”
And that’s what makes this week’s Juneteenth celebration in Grambling so important.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
From its Galveston, Texas, origin in 1865, the observance of June 19 as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
