Village of Simsboro eyes annexation

SIMSBORO — A standing- room only crowd of concerned citizens came out to the regularly scheduled Simsboro town hall meeting last week. Citizens sat quietly and waited for the meeting to begin, and once it did, there appeared to be an air of tension felt by all.
Simsboro Mayor Willie Hendricks started the meeting as usual but amended the opening of the meeting just a tad. He invited Patrick Jefferson, a lawyer from Arcadia, to speak to the townspeople about a proposed annexation. Jefferson provided an abridged version of what happens during a town land annexation.

Ruston moves up in economic strength

Ruston has moved up to the 76th strongest economy among the nation’s micropolitan areas, according to the POLICOM Corporation’s annual economic strength rankings.
Ruston’s 2011 ranking is almost 30 points higher than the 2010 mark.
The ratings measure 23 different economic factors looked at over a 20-year period including wages and earnings in several economic sectors, as well as welfare and Medicaid.
