Willpower is a powerful thing.
How bad did perennial standout Dirk Nowitzki want a NBA title? I think that showed as he was in the final seconds of Sunday’s game six as the Dallas Mavericks were celebrating a championship on the road in Miami.

Bullock, Lancaster marry in May

Jennifer Bullock, of Choudrant, and Will Lancaster, of Ruston, were married in a 6 p.m. ceremony May 7 at New Hope Baptist Church in Choudrant.

The Rev. Dwayne Monk officiated the ceremony.

Jennifer is the daughter of Patsy J. Bullock, of Choudrant, and the late Jerry M. Bullock. She is the granddaughter of the late Walter R. and Bessie Gay, of Kentwood, and the late Robert Clarence and Lena Bullock, of Choudrant.

Hammons to celebrate 50 years

David and Rae Hammons, of Choudrant, will celebrate 50 years of marriage. They were married June 16, 1961.

Children include David Hammons and wife Chris, Beverly Posey and husband Jeff, Marie Hammons Clark and Mariam Stone and husband Mike.

Grandchildren include Matthew Stone and wife Tara, Heath and Kate Posey, Courtney Hammons, Melanie Stone Binns and husband Zach.

Holloway, Roberson exchange vows in Mexico

Katie Lynn Holloway, of Ruston, and Jason Samuel Roberson, of West Monroe, were married in a sunset ceremony on April 21 at the Aventura Spa Palace Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Katie is the daughter of Ronnie and Debbie Holloway, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Mary Holloway Larance and the late William Clifton Holloway, of Ruston, and the late Billy and Patricia Holstead, of Monroe.

Jason is the son of Samuel and Frances Roberson, of West Monroe. He is the grandson of Buddy and Hazel Caldwell, of West Monroe, and the late Rufus and Phala Roberson, of Haile.

Town gears up for annual celebration

GRAMBLING — The town of Grambling is anxiously preparing for its annual Juneteenth celebration.
Juneteenth is celebrated nationally and is traditionally known as the United States’ oldest celebration of the end of slavery.
Grambling’s event, the oldest heritage festival in Louisiana, kicks off Wednesday with opening ceremonies, an old-fashioned campground prayer meeting and what has become known as “Conversations Under the Tent,” which involves members of the different generations present at the festival telling stories of the city’s history and sharing their perceptions of Grambling.
