Barnett award

Eldred Barnett of Grambling State University is a double winner on the 2011 All-Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball team announced on Thursday.
The junior outfielder from Benton is not only the Tigers’ lone representative on the squad, but also the winner of the Newcomer of the Year award.

McDaniel, Sawyer lead parish finishers at XTERRA competition

Four Lincoln Parish representatives finished among the Top Three in their divisions of the recent XTERRA competition held at Lincoln Parish Park.
Leading the way in the off-road adventure event which included a trail run, swim and mountain bike race were Josh McDaniel of Choudrant and Benjamin Sawyer of Ruston.
McDaniel won the Clydesdale division and Sawyer was tops in the men’s 19-under category for the Gator Terra, which consisted of an 800-yard swim, 10-mile mountain bike race and 3.5-mile trail run.

Grambling loses to Alcorn, 20-5

SHREVEPORT — Grambling State had a rough second-round appearance in the 2011 Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament here Thursday, as the Tigers (23-25) stumbled 20-5 to Alcorn State at Fair Grounds Field.

’Dogs at Sac State; Ewing honored

If this is the Western Athletic Conference, then it must mean another long road trip for Louisiana Tech University’s baseball team.
Sure enough, the Bulldogs will be on an extended journey starting this weekend.
And then into next, as Tech (29-24, 9-11) winds down regular season play in the league and then begins action in the annual conference postseason tournament next weekend.

District ‘5’ tryouts set scheduled

Tryouts for the Louisiana District 5 baseball team that makes a perennial run for the Big League World Series will be held Saturday and Sunday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Starting time each day will be 1 p.m.
