HONOLULU — Alex Williams had a two-run single in the first and Mike Jefferson fired eight scoreless innings allowing just six hits and striking out six batters as Louisiana Tech shutout Hawaii 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.

Keagle, Bump married at Temple Baptist Church

Crystal Briana Bump, of Ruston, and Christopher Thomas Keagle, of Baton Rouge, were united in marriage at 6:30 p.m. April 16 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston.

The ceremony was officiated by Associate Pastor Dale Oden.

Crystal is the daughter of Bill and Linda Bump, of Farmerville, and Tommy and Melanie-Colvin Garrison, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of the late Earl V. Bump, the late Mary Rose Bump, the late James Allen Colvin, Sr., and the late Jackie S. Moix.

NATCHITOCHES — Louisiana Tech athletes claimed five event titles and senior thrower Larry Jones recorded a pair of personal records and Top 10 marks in school history as Tech competed at the Northwestern State Invitational Saturday.

Smith, Rozelle wed at Calvary Baptist

Mallory Rozelle and Seth Smith exchanged wedding vows in a 2 p.m. ceremony Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church.

The Rev. Malcolm Self and the Rev. Brian Britt officiated the ceremony.

Mallory is the daughter of Tim and Ginger Babcock, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Rozelle, of Winnfield, and the late Paxton and Maxine Wyatt.
Seth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Huey Smith, Jr., of Jena. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. David Mills, of Trout, Violet Smith, of Jena, and the late Huey Smith, Sr.

RHS: Title week on diamond?

Bearcats’ 19-game winners nearing 3-4A laurels

By the time this week is over, Ruston High School’s baseball team could be talking title.
The Bearcats (19-10, 10-2), one of the hottest teams in Louisiana’s Quad-A circles during the past three weeks, will wind down their District 3-4A schedule Friday and Saturday.
Head Coach Toby White and his team would prefer to do it in style by capturing a league championship that has eluded the RHS program in recent years.
They’re on the verge of doing it, too.

Widow’s party and ER trip provide colorful experiences

No one can say I don’t have a busy, exciting life for a 90-year-old. The last two days have been busier than usual. Yesterday was the actual day of the widow’s banquet, and I know I have run that subject in the ground, but I must tell you a little more. I’m still high from the experience.
First of all, the country club was gated, with a guard who signed you in. There were actually two gates. One was for members, who whizzed by in their lane, while we had to sign in.

Zumba queen shakes up simple dish

After being in the United States for two years, Abril Rocio Armendariz Hernandez still finds time to think of her mother and cook real Mexican dishes.
The 31-year-old was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and worked as a criminal and sexual crimes prosecutor. But now things are taking a turn for the more bright and fun side of life.
“I teach about 20 Zumba classes a week,” Abril said. “I love Zumba, it’s a great way to be active and stay in shape.”

Darden, Cassels set to exchange vows in May

Dalton Slade Darden, of Columbia, and Jessica Darlene Cassels, of Columbia, are pleased to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Weatherford, of Columbia, and Kodie Hawkes, of Lake Charles. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cassels, of Columbia, and Sheilia Bailey, of Iowa, La.
Jessica is a 2007 alumna of Caldwell Parish High School and will graduate from Louisiana Tech University in May. She is employed as a reporter at the Ruston Daily Leader.

Odis James Lee Reliford, of Holly Springs, Miss., and Kimberly Nicole Williams, of Ruston, are pleased to announce their engagement and approaching wedding.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Ivivian Reed, of Ruston, and Mr. and Mrs. David Williams, also of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Cloteal Reed, of Ruston, the late Cleveland Reed and the late Beatrice Williams.
