Wood Marine set to swing

Former Louisiana Tech University baseball player Jody Wood will be going to the “plate” in a different way, what with the grand-opening ceremonies set by he and wife Jodi (a Ruston High School graduate) for Wood Marine on Friday. A ribbon cutting will be held at 11 a.m. on that day and special events will be on the grand-opening calendar Friday (11 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m.-5 p.m.). A drawing will be held for a $500 gift certificate, free refreshments will be available and various other offerings will be a part of the grand-opening schedule.

Silmons win Fishers of Men tourney

Glen View jumps from the heart

On Feb. 11, Glen View Elementary participated in Jump Rope for Heart. Students in grades of first-fifth raised $3,401.14 to help aid in fighting heart disease and stroke. All of the proceeds will be sent to the American Heart Association.

Local music students win honors

The Ruston Area Music Teachers Association recently held their annual Solo Festival at Louisiana Tech University where 141 students were registered to compete in piano or vocal solo competition.
From each grade division, students receiving a score of 98-100 were invited to perform inan afternoon recital where they received a Superior Plus Award ribbon for their performance, and one winner from each division was awarded a trophy as the Overall Winner for their age group.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Feb. 24 for The Zone, located at 5135 U.S. Highway 167 North in Vienna. The ceremony was sponsored by the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.
