Can Lincoln Parish’s two collegiate head football coaches make it two-for-two in “Coach of the Year” awards?
Figure on Sonny Dykes of Louisiana Tech University and Doug Williams of Grambling State University giving Les Miles of No. 1 nationally-ranked LSU a run for the honor when the Louisiana Sports Writers Association announces the 2011 All-Louisiana team on Sunday.
Dykes and Williams helped guide their teams to remarkable turnarounds this season.

Tech happy to keep Dykes on board

Houston was close to pushing big for Bulldogs’ leader

Whoa, that was close.
Sonny Dykes was awarded earlier this week with a contact extension that will keep him as the head football coach at Louisiana Tech University until 2017.
But it was practically a “two-minute drill” by university officials that kept the son of former legendary Texas Tech Head Coach Spike Dykes in Bulldogs’ country for the next five seasons.
On the heels of making a strong push for Dykes was the University of Houston, who is seeking a successor to Kevin Sumlin, who guided the Cougars’ Conference USA team to a Top 25 national ranking this season.

Tech fans encouraged by bowl effort

Louisiana Tech University fans filing out of Qualcomm Stadium on Wednesday night would have preferred a victory.
But even in the aftermath of a 31-24 loss to TCU in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, faithful followers of the Bulldogs still had reason to exit with a positive demeanor.

Bulldogs fall to Arkansas, 77-63

Appleby leads Tech offensive effort with 23 points

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Louisiana Tech fell to Arkansas 77-63 Thursday night at Bud Walton Arena, as freshman guard Raheem Appleby scored 23 points, his third straight 20-point game, on 10-of-22 shooting to pace the Bulldogs.
The defeat ends Tech’s three-game winning streak as the Bulldogs fall to 7-6 on the year. while the Razorbacks improve to 8-3.

Richie, Ewing pace Lady Cougars to win

Cedar Creek High got a 20-point performance out of Ruby Richie and an eight-point, eight-rebound showing from Allison Ewing to take a 44-41 girls’ basketball victory over Sterlington on Thursday night.
Richie also had five rebounds and Ewing added on a steal to her nearly double-double production in the Lady Cougars’ victory.

The Lincoln Parish School Board met in Regular Session on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Parish School Board, 410 South Farmerville Street, Ruston, Louisiana. Members present were Ms. Debbie Abrahm, Mr. Otha Anders, Mr. Michael Barmore, Ms. Lisa Best, Mr. Danny Hancock, Mrs. Mattie Harrison, Ms. Lynda Henderson, Mr. Trott Hunt, Mr. Eddie Jones, and Mr. Joe Mitcham.
Mr. Curtis Dowling and Mr. George Mack were absent.
