Bulldogs matured with Hawaii game

Home loss to Warriors started Tech turnaround

Louisiana Tech University’s worse loss of this season might have been the best thing to happen to the Bulldogs.
If an unofficial poll was taken of Head Coach Sonny Dykes, his staff and players, they would all likely point to a 44-26 drubbing by Hawaii at Joe Aillet Stadium on Oct. 1 as the turning point in the campaign.
“It’s a little weird, but the way Hawaii handled us, it really became the turning point of our season,” Dykes said. “Everybody on the team realized that (the game) was so out of character for us. We realized we had to start changing some things and improve as a team.”

Christmas tree safety is crucial for the holidays

It’s time to deck the halls again. But before area residents chop down live Christmas trees or pull their artificial trees from storage, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Jim Hilton, Lincoln Parish Fire District spokesman, said the biggest fire hazard during the holiday season is live Christmas trees.

Since, like me, they aren’t getting any younger, I try to visit with what Tom Brokaw called the greatest generation every chance I get.
But, it was really something Miss Fern said this past summer that sparked my curiosity. She mentioned that Jimmy wouldn’t be at the Fourth of July fireworks show at James Lake because “it reminded him of the war.”

Reneau: Thanks for the support

in

On behalf of the players and coaches of the Louisiana Tech Bulldog football team and the entire Tech Family, I would like to sincerely thank the people and communities of North Louisiana for the support they have shown our student-athletes, coaches and support staff this entire season. Many of you have attended games during the season, forwarded stories and game day experiences to friends and fans in other places or simply sent a note of encouragement or congratulations following a hard-fought game.

Take time for holiday breaks

TAYLOR.jpg

With the first part of the holiday season over, we are now preparing for the stretch run at Christmas, which for many — including my girlfriend — is the best time of the year.
She was recently out of town for six days to visit her family in Oklahoma, and I was stuck in Ruston working and trying to find ways to pass the time.
I saw my family here and there, but for the most part, I spent a lot of last week on my couch just waiting for something interesting to happen while I fought off the urge to sleep at 7 p.m.
