Tech soccer squad wins WAC opener

in

Senior Olivia Lukasewich scored the only goal of the game to give the Louisiana Tech soccer team a 1-0 victory over New Mexico State Saturday afternoon at Lady Techster Soccer Complex in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The win was the first to open conference play in Lady Techster history.
“The win today was massive,” said head coach Kevin Sherry. “If you are going to finish in a tie at the end of the season, a win like the one today is huge because of the head-to-head win.”
Tech improves to 8-2-4 on the season and 1-0 in the WAC. The Aggies are now 7-5-1 and 0-1 in conference.

Help give back to area youth

Over the past few weeks, area residents have joined together to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Louisiana with the hopes of helping them win a $50,000 grant.
The club needed to place in the Top 10 of the Pepsi Refresh Campaign to win the money, which was going to be used to take the club to the older youth in the parish.
Eldonta Osborne, executive director, said although they did not win the need for taking the club to older youth is still there.

Louisiana’s inspector general said Friday that he is investigating the cancellation of a training seminar involving one of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s little-known opponents within two weeks of her entrance into the governor’s race.
“I can confirm that we are looking into that matter at the request of the governor’s office. I am unable to comment further while the matter remains pending,” Inspector General Stephen Street said in an e-mail.

Parents need real mission statements

in
Rosemond, John.jpg

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the difference between the way I and almost everyone else in my generation (I was born in 1947, the year the flying saucers returned … just a coincidence) were raised and the way today’s kids are being raised. The two ways in question reflect two entirely different mindsets; specifically, two entirely different understandings of the responsibilities involved in being a parent.
