’Dogs hope to end home ‘jinx’

Tech back at ‘Joe’ Saturday, but best games have been on road

Maybe for Louisiana Tech University’s football, “home” is really away.
Instead of the friendly confines of Joe Aillet Stadium, the Bulldogs have actually been at their best when packing for another road trip.
With a 24-17 victory at Utah State University on Saturday, Tech captured its fourth consecutive Western Athletic Conference road win.
It’s the longest such string of success for the Bulldogs since joining the conference in 2001.
And this year alone, Tech is one of two WAC teams with two road wins.

Williams’ hunch, gamble pay off in win

GRAMBLING — Maybe Doug Williams and son D.J. Williams should purchase a lottery ticket this week.
They’ve both got to be feeling fortunate after doing some riverboat-style gambling on Saturday.
Doug Williams, the Grambling State University head coach, opted to put son D.J. in at quarterback during an overtime session against Mississippi Valley State.
It was a move made despite a strong performance from starter Frank Rivers during regulation time.

Tech’s ‘Quest’ making progress toward reality

Louisiana Tech University’s ambitious “Quest for Excellence” is taking giant steps towards becoming a reality.
At a Monday media luncheon for the Bulldogs’ football program, Athletics Director Bruce Van de Velde announced that fundraising for the project “has been substantial enough to allow us to move closer to hiring an architect for construction purposes.
“After that, we are hopeful of being able to announce a ground making (for the project) soon.”

Creek advances to No. 6 in poll

Two of the Top 10 ranked teams in Louisiana’s Class 1A circles are heading for a big battle on Friday night.
Monroe’s Ouachita Christian is No. 1 and Cedar Creek is No. 6 in the eighth weekly state poll announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Monday afternoon.
For the Cougars, it’s their highest poll ranking of the season, following two straight weeks of having been No. 8. Cedar Creek received 73 points and OCS 144 points from the 12-member statewide voting panel.
