Forcing treatment on the mentally ill

The suspect in the recent Arizona shooting, 22-year-old Jared Loughner, had been told by community college campus police to get a mental health evaluation if he wished to return. According to a story by the Associated Press, Loughner, despite professor and classmate concerns, was never diagnosed with what experts say seems to be a clear-cut case of schizophrenia.
The issue of individual rights versus the safety of others sometimes comes into play when serious mental issues are addressed.
Louisiana Tech University psychology professor Mary Margaret Livingston elaborates on this topic.

Tech blazing new trails for future

Louisiana Tech’s announcement last week of a groundbeaking partnership with Murphy USA is one more indication of the school’s ability to think outside of the box and toward the future of higher education.
And because of that mindset, Tech appears more ahead of the game than many colleges throughout the country.
Projects like Tech’s Enterprise Campus is another one of those trendsetting moves that has moved Tech to a position as one of the leading colleges in the region. Tech officials have said the Enterprise Campus will ending up creating more than 1,000 jobs that will stimulate economic growth by approximately $185 million per year.

Writer: U.S. not prepared for major war

Seventy years ago, the United States became involved in World War II. Several years previous, Germany and Japan started building their war machine from submarines to aircraft carriers. Each nation developed a modern fighting force greater than ever known to mankind. Dec. 1, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and the US was fighting for its life.

Classes collect 200 cans of food for DART

GHS food drive
The senior and junior classes at Grambling High School completed a community service project on Dec. 16. Both classes collected canned foods for the local Domestic Abuse Resistance Team. The classes collected more than 200 canned goods for the organization.

Students inducted into honor society

National Junior Honor Society
I.A. Lewis inducted 47 outstanding students into the National Junior Honor Society on Jan. 11. These club participants not only have GPAs of 3.0 or better but also demonstrate the five characteristics of NJHS. We are so proud of these intelligent students and are looking forward to a great year serving others in the community.
