Richie, Ewing pace Lady Cougars to win

in

Cedar Creek High got a 20-point performance out of Ruby Richie and an eight-point, eight-rebound showing from Allison Ewing to take a 44-41 girls’ basketball victory over Sterlington on Thursday night.
Richie also had five rebounds and Ewing added on a steal to her nearly double-double production in the Lady Cougars’ victory.

The Lincoln Parish School Board met in Regular Session on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Parish School Board, 410 South Farmerville Street, Ruston, Louisiana. Members present were Ms. Debbie Abrahm, Mr. Otha Anders, Mr. Michael Barmore, Ms. Lisa Best, Mr. Danny Hancock, Mrs. Mattie Harrison, Ms. Lynda Henderson, Mr. Trott Hunt, Mr. Eddie Jones, and Mr. Joe Mitcham.
Mr. Curtis Dowling and Mr. George Mack were absent.

The Lincoln Parish School Board Office, 410 South Farmerville Street, Ruston, LA will accept bids for the clearing of a twelve acre tract of land in Simsboro. The property is located to the east of Rose Street and north of Highway 80. Bids will be accepted until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at which time they will be opened. Complete specifications and requirements for this project may be obtained from the office of the Superintendent at 410 South Farmerville Street, during regular business hours of 8:00 – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.

La. Tech endures slashes

More cuts expected

With news coming out Dec. 16 that Louisiana would be cutting another $50 million of funding from its public colleges to help balance the state’s budget, Louisiana Tech University is preparing to make a list of proposed cuts to meet the new budget criteria.
Tech, which had to cut approximately $642,000 from its budget during the 2010-11 fiscal year, faces a more daunting cut this year, with the state projected at cutting $2.15 million from the university. Each public university in the state is receiving a cut of 5.01 percent from their budget.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Texas Christian University made their point in the Poinsettia Bowl Wednesday night.
Yes, they just might have deserved a berth in a Bowl Championship Series.
Ranked No. 18 in the final BCS standings, but overlooked for an “upper tier” postseason appearance, the Horned Frogs (12-2) were a 31-24 winner over Louisiana Tech University (8-5) at the San Diego County Credit Union-sponsored game that was held at Qualcomm Stadium in front of 24,607 fans.

Rotary honors WWII vet for service

The Ruston Rotary Club has had its fair share of veterans as members over its history in the city, and now, as the years continue to pass, the number of those veterans is slipping away, especially those from the World War II generation.
The Rotary Club decided to honor their last surviving member of WWII on Wednesday, and Ruston decided to pay tribute as well, leaving Dec. 21 as a new day in the history books for the city.

Emerald Entertainers to perform in parade

The Cedar Creek Emerald Entertainers will perform in the 2011 Disney Christmas Parade. The parade airs on ABC at 11 a.m. Sunday, Christmas morning. They will be performing with a group of 500 dancers and cheerleaders during this Disney Christmas Extravaganza.
