Camptown races begin for Saints

Yes, it’s that time of the year — one of my favorites — where months of anticipation finally wind down and we get down to business.
It’s camp-watch time as the New Orleans Saints have opened preseason training in the blistering New Orleans heat.
It’s funny, because I’ve heard a couple of other Saints fans say they’ll never be able to get that excited again after last season’s incredible performance. Me? I’m greedier than that. I’ll all about the “Two Dat,” and will still get excited watching the games whether the Saints go 16-0 or 2-14 in the regular season.

William Brewster “Bill” Kinman, Jr., 84, passed away July 30, 2010. He died of complications from strokes suffered in February.

Church celebrates 125 years

First Baptist Church, the oldest church in Ruston, is planning a weekend of celebration to commemorate their 125th anniversary. First Baptist Church was incorporated in 1885, but met as a group for several years before that time.
Church historians through the years have kept detailed records and numerous photographs to preserve the history.
Chris Craig, current pastor, suggested that a committee be formed earlier this year to organize the celebration, which will be Aug. 7-8, at the church on Trenton Street in downtown Ruston.

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council announces that five artists from the region have been accepted to the seventh annual Forum 35 Art Melt:
