7 more nabbed in Operation Roundup

Seven new arrests have been made in the ongoing Operation Roundup, which is an operation by the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team to make nearly 100 drug arrests over the course of the next few months.
Thus far, 29 individuals have been arrested in the operation. The most recent arrests are as follows”
• Daryl Howard, 30, 1430 Oriole St. — Distribution of cocaine
• Deshun Mardis, 24, 220 Styles Ranch Road, Choudrant — Distribution of marijuana (four counts)
• Sherri Snipe Solley, 24, 2505 U.S. Highway 167 — Distribution of marijuana (three counts)

Glen View celebrates good grade

In this season of generosity and thanksgiv Glen View Elementary is celebrating the success of our 2010 School Performance Score. In an attempt to put into perspective what this score means to Glen View, I immediately began to think of football and more specifically the Bowl Championship Series. What mere fan can adequately explain how teams are ranked in the BCS series? The same applies to a School Performance Score. The score is a complicated method of describing a school’s academic success.

For years, the trend has been to do away with physical punishment in public schools. In conjunction with that, large sums of money have been invested for school facilities. Beautiful new school buildings have been built with state of the art amenities.

Take steps to reduce cost of heating

The first day of winter officially begins on Tuesday, but many local residents are already feeling the shiver of cold weather embrace them. Lows fell down to the 20s last week, and some locals found themselves pulling out the ice scrapers to clear off their vehicle windows.
Although the lows are not expected to be quite so harsh this week, it appears jackets and gloves would be handy to have. Lows are expected to hover around the mid 30s for most of the week. Exceptions are on Monday, where it will be slightly warmer with a low of 52, and on Wednesday, with a low down to 29.

Schools get involved in Christmas food drive

Donations exceed 78K pounds

The 10th annual KTVE-KARD Christmas Cheer Food Drive came to an end on
Dec. 9 with an incredible 78,028 total pounds of food collected from 48 area schools that were also competing to beat hunger.

Student wins spelling bee

Hico Elementary School held its annual spelling bee on Dec. 15. Mrs. Key, Hico principal, served as the caller. Mrs. Post, Hico's coordinator, and Toni Cox and Randy Moss, from IIG, served as judges.
Eight fourth- and fifth- grade students participated.
They were as follows: Fourth grade — Devin Brazzel, Makaila Bordelon, Jamie Farrar, Aeryn Jones and Angel Martin; fifth grade — Marquis Kennedy, Hannah Lee and Kendall McNeal.
Students competed for 12 rounds before Hannah Lee emerged as Hico's spelling bee champion.
