Christian motorcycle club donates to Toys for Tots

Ezekiel’s Wheels, the local chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association, headed by Sam Chrisman, recently collected $830 and 40 toys for Toys for Tots with their annual Toy Run through Ruston. Pictured are the Ruston Jaycees and the motorcyclists in attendance.

Savings plan for 2011 can add up

A giving spirit during the holidays is apparent in Lincoln Parish. Here, people take the meaning of Christmas to heart. That is apparent by the collections taken for initiatives like Toys for Tots, Christian Community Action and Coats for Kids. Trinity United Methodist Church and local schools’ classroom parties and gifts for the children at Ruston Elementary School also demonstrate Ruston’s heart during the holidays. The community’s generosity shows what a great place Ruston is to live.

Simsboro can sleep more safely at night

The citizens of Simsboro can rest a little easier at night come the New Year. Around Jan. 1, they’ll have a police officer making the rounds five nights a week.
This is the result of an effort by Simsboro Mayor Willie Hendricks who called the vote to install Woody Christian, the new nighttime officer, “an historic event” for the town.

GSU holds fall graduation ceremonies

More than 400 new graduates picked up their diplomas Friday as Grambling State University held fall commencement exercises. In the picture above, a new graduate sings the school’s alma mater. The picture at bottom left shows keynote speaker Henry L. Whitehorn, Sr., U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Louisiana. Whitehorn received his master’s in criminal justice from GSU. After seven months in the interim, there is a new fire chief in town.
Ruston City Council members on Friday unanimously approved Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth’s recommendation of Assistant Fire Chief James Austin to head up the Ruston Fire Department.

Man injured in rollover

One man received was airlifted to a Shreveport hospital Friday night after a truck rollover on La. Hwy. north of Ruston.
