Seat belts must be a priority

It’s a problem of negligence, of not thinking about the seat belt while turning the ignition and starting the motor.
And for a Grambling State University professor this week, the decision to run from Point A to Point B without a seat belt provided a negative example for four of her children in the car with her.
The professor died, along with one of her children. Two others are under vigil at Shreveport and Minden hospitals. The situation could have been avoided.
It should have been, based on information GSU spokesmen have told the Daily Leader.

This city loves its newspaper

Credibility has been questioned since the whole media world began to turn. We in the business learn to take the questions as a good sign that readers care about what we’re doing.
People have a love-hate relationship with the “fourth estate,” the journalists that tell the news. It’s a hard-to-define business that deals only in people, with a little bit of natural disaster thrown in from time to time. That makes journalism a daily battle.

Names of victims read for 9/11 anniversary

Felicia Dunn-Jones, an attorney who was working a block from the World Trade Center, became the 2,974th victim linked to attack sites. The four hijacked airliners hit the twin towers, the Pentagon and a field near Shanksville, Pa., where federal investigators say the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 fought the hijackers on the rallying cry "Let's roll!"
A memorial honoring Flight 93's 40 passengers and crew was to begin shortly before 9:55 a.m., the time the airliner nosedived into the empty field.
