Sewer rehab project nears

“The Pipeline Analysis group will have crews that will work with our crews. They will be supplementing what we do already,” said Richard Aillet, water utilities director. “Normally our crews do inspections and find problems, but we don’t have the time to come in and do all the repairs. This gives the city additional manpower to identify sewer main problems and fix them.”
Smoke and dye tests will be conducted, and a camera will be run inside a sewage line to look for problems in the areas of the city where the sewer system is 50 to 70 years old.

Tech playing LSU or Patriots?

Rather, Dooley said simply that “we can’t get caught up in all of the talk about playing the No. 2 team in the country, No. 2 in the BCS standings, one of the top 10 teams in the country during the last five or six years or playing in front of 92,000 fans.
“You have that happen and you won’t play very well. We need to be prepared to play the very best we can and to be ready to face some of the best players we’ve seen this year. We’ll take a swing at the best and see what happens.”

Cedars could be boon for the parish

While there’s no doubt this project will be a boon to the parish, we urge the developers to proceed with care.
A complex of this size could easily become an eyesore at the entrance to Ruston if it’s not tastefully designed and promoted. Oddo and his team seem to have an appealing concept in place — an open-air park with a lake and plenty of trees — and we hope that will be reflected in the final product.

D.A.R.T. needs our help

In many cases, the victim is not even aware that he or she is a victim of domestic violence.
The Department of Justice reports that each year 1 million women in the country seek medical assistance for injuries caused by abuse. An estimated 3.3 million children are exposed to violence by family members against their mothers or female caretakers each year, according to the American Bar Association. In homes where domestic violence occurs, children are 1,500 times more likely to be abused, and 40 percent to 60 percent of men who abuse their wives also abuse their children.

D.A.R.T. hosts radiothon

“D.A.R.T. was first built and formed by the community, and the community is what will keep us going,” Dance said. “There are a lot of things that grants don’t pay for, and that is why the radiothon is so important. During the year, our yearly stats showed that we served 605 victims of domestic violence. These stats show that D.A.R.T. is very much needed in our area.”
Keena Ogle, D.A.R.T. advocate, said Kappa Sigma fraternity members will be greeting people and taking donations at Super 1 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
