Inspector Brown is on the trail

Current council members and others involved have dropped hints — the biggest coming last week at a Chamber-sponsored economic summit — but nothing has been revealed.
Consultant Ron Norwood told those gathered at the summit (which provided a wealth of good information for small businesses) that his project is now “past the talking stage.” He spoke for about five to 10 minutes on the project, while I sat in the back anxiously awaiting a word that would define the project; I never got it.

Lights shine for upcoming RCT production

“Before (the renovation), RCT was performing at all different places so we would built a box-type set,” he said. “But in the Dixie we really have a chance to work with more creative design sets.”
For some plays, such as RCT’s production of “Little Women” (2004), a more permanent structure such as a box set is appropriate because all of the scenes take place in the same room.

Regents to hold meeting at Tech

We used to say, ‘Peaches, pine trees and Ph.Ds’ because those are the economic drivers. We have a highly educated parish and enormous benefits from having two colleges so close together.”
Levy added he was pleased Tech had agreed to host the meeting.
“We are excited to have (the Board of Regents) here.
It is always very beneficial for these governing boards to get out in the field and see those who are being governed,” Levy said. “I made a recommendation several years ago for them to have a meeting here, but there was a logistical problem to say the least.”

Dunigan set for CFL hall induction

Dunigan was a throwback player, hell-bent to run over a defender if it meant gaining an extra yard or two for his team.
Concussions?
Hey, for the Man of Mettle, it was the price you paid.
“That’s the way Matt was, whatever it took,” recalled former Tech teammate and long-time friend Trey Junkin.
“I have never been around anyone who played the game with as much passion and toughness that Matt did.
That was just the way he believed the game should be played.”

Health fair important to community

For others, the cost is $15 for a flu vaccination and $25 for a pneumonia vaccine.
We hope the community will take advantage of this offer.
In the United States, 114,000 people are hospitalized each year, and about 36,000 die due to the flu.
More than 90 percent of the ones who die from influenza are 65 years or older.
Getting a flu shot can prevent not only sickness but, possibly, even death.
While flu season ranges from November through March, pneumonia can strike at any time and is the leading cause of preventable death among individuals who are 65 years old and older.

What’s so special about Ruston?

I was raised in a small town and graduated with a class of about 45. The “cool” things to do on Friday night included going to the football game, driving around the courthouse and getting a drink from Sonic.
If you want entertainment other than that, you’d better get a tank of gas and head to Monroe.
Ruston has grown tremendously in the last few years I have been here — especially in the last two.
The new Celebrity Theatre and Chili’s are five minutes from my house.

I-20 ramp work builds up Ruston

The off-ramp will remain closed, though, as a third lane is added between Trenton and Vienna streets by the off-ramp.
“They’re coming along,” Love said.
“They are going to build another lane toward the Interstate.”
Love said the city is also preparing for its next project — reworking the South Service Road between U.S. 167 and Farmerville Highway.
“We’re going to realign the South Service Road and take it all the way to U.S. Highway 33,” Love said.
“That project should take about 11 months.”
He said he hopes bids will be let out in the next two months.

Kyle filling the Bill-s in Buffalo

But then there are those great Horatio Alger-like stories concerning lower choices, those that go in the latter rounds, the ones where your general fan might forget the name by the time training camp arrives.
Around Buffalo these days, however, everybody knows about Kyle Williams.
He’s the former Ruston Junior High, Ruston High and LSU star who was the team’s first selection in the fifth round during the league’s late spring draft.

Don’t dodge your duty

A major piece of that puzzle is the right of citizens to go the polls to elect their representatives and voice their opinions.
Throughout our nation’s history, that right has been paid for with the blood of brave men and women who felt the right to vote should be defended at any cost.
On Saturday, area residents will have an opportunity to take advantage of the right to vote.

Items to salvage area’s history

What is it that fascinates us with the past? Some believe that if we don’t learn from past mistakes, we’ll be doomed to repeat them. Others have a thirst for knowledge that can only be quenched by the information that can only be found in the yellowed pages of a history book.
I’m not much of a history buff, but I’ll admit that there is something interesting about flipping through old family photo albums at Grandma’s house or catching a program on America’s beginnings on the History Channel.
