'Dogs exit from tourney

Louisiana Tech found that out the hard way Thursday night, as Texas-El Paso took a 62-55 win to oust the Bulldogs in quarterfinal play of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at the Save-Mart Center.
UTEP used a speedy, smothering defense to frustrate the Bulldogs (15-15), who were held to a 35.7 shooting percentage (20-of-56).

GSU falls to Stephen F. Austin

Rivers went 6-of-11 from the field as Stephen F. Austin (5-2) broke open a tight game in the second half. Taylor Moore added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Antonio Burks scored 10 for SFA.
Paul Haynes and Brion Rush each scored 14 to lead Grambling State (2-5). Haynes added 11 rebounds and Rush had seven.
SFA led 23-21 at halftime but shot 57 percent from the floor in the second half to pull away.
Grambling State shot 42 percent, just below the 43 percent for SFA’s total for the game. But Grambling took 22 fewer shots and had just four assists.
