Jury schedules economic summit

The committee is taking its first major public step in holding the Lincoln Parish Economic Development Summit 2005 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24. at the Lincoln Parish Library.
The Thursday evening program will be followed by a reception from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. which will be hosted by Community Trust Bank.

Award winners cite reasons for success

In reflecting on their selection, the winners cited many common and yet unique factors in their respective business successes.
The Business of the Year Award for O'Nealgas of Choudrant was accepted by founder John O'Neal.
"Whatever success we have enjoyed at this company goes back to the very beginning when it was just a partnership between me and my wife Me J," O'Neal recalled. "I started the company in March and we married the next January. It has always been a team effort."

Connick to return for ACS Gala

"With the success we had last year we are being even more optimistic about this year's plans," Gala Chairman Kathy Reeg said. "Even though we are planning a wonderful evening with the finest in entertainment and cuisine, our purpose is to support the work of The American Cancer Society which touches many, many lives in our area.

Park Avenue neighbors react to Lewis' closing

Moving east to west along Park Avenue, here is a sampling of the response of neighboring business owners and managers:
n Ron Adams of The Fabric Shop — "Lewis & Co. has certainly been a great neighbor all of these years. They were a major draw for our downtown and that benefited all of us who have the nearby businesses. I hate to see them go. We should just hope that whatever new business comes in continues to offer quality goods and services the way Lewis & Co. did."

Mayor calls meeting to discuss Lewis’ closure

City of Ruston Economic Development Administrator Ray Watson said The Mayor's Office called a meeting for today to consider what manner of help might be offered to the store owners.
"The closing of Lewis & Company is devastating to the whole community," Watson said. "It has been the downtown cornerstone for over a century and we want to offer whatever type of help we can to work with the Lewises to find the best use for the space.

Public invited on tour

As part of the requirements for completing their degrees, the fifth year architecture students divide into teams of several students each and design and execute separate projects which will have lasting value to the community.
Puljak said the tour would be an exciting event for the students, their parents, their fellow students, supporters and contributors and the general public.

Theater meeting scheduled

“This is an exciting development in our attempts to locate a movie theater in Ruston,” Burt said. “The site selection team from Marquee Cinema will be here July 9, 2003 and they plan to stay two days.
“They have already narrowed down a long list of possible sites to the final four and they will make a decision shortly after their visit. They are not releasing the specific sites under consideration ahead of their visit. But as soon as they decide, then we will see things begin to move toward this major addition for our community rather quickly.”

Ruston entries reach Top 10 at Miss La.

The Ruston entries include Miss Twin Cities (Shreveport-Bossier City) Lauren Bischoff, Miss Bossier City Maridith Hollis, Miss City of Ruston Krystal Pennuel, Miss Louisiana Tech University Molly Causey and Miss Dixie Gem Peach Dagni Bowls.
From the time the Ruston entries were announced, area veteran pageant organizers Judy Burt, Lue Napper and David Hedgepeth have voiced confidence that Ruston could once again have a state title holder.

Bells to ring at noon

"I have been thinking about something which we could do as a community to show continuing support on a daily basis," Hollingsworth said. "The sound of the bells should signal a time for a moment of prayer for all of those involved in the conflict in any way. We also need to remember the families of those who are participating in this effort."
Civic Center Manager Judy Burt is contacting the churches as quickly as possible and said she is receiving a positive response.
