It’s time to think about choosing this year’s Christmas tree. But before you do, the LSU AgCenter suggests a few things to consider.
First, measure the area where you will place the tree to make sure you don’t buy a tree that’s too large.
LSU AgCenter forestry specialist Niels de Hoop recommends making sure you get the freshest tree you can. As faculty advisor in the School of Renewable Natural Resources, he oversees selling Christmas trees by the Society of American Foresters student chapter at LSU.

In just a few hours, people throughout Lincoln Parish will pull up to heavily laden dinner tables and surrounded by friends and family, give thanks.
It’s a scene that will be repeated throughout the state and across the country. Today is Thanksgiving, that Congressionally-declared holiday when the nation pauses from its political wrangling to once again count its blessings.

Learn from Thanksgiving’s history

in
Amaya, Derek.jpg

A lot can be learned from the first Thanksgiving in our country.

When the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock, the world was a much more primitive place.
Escaping the Church of England, the Puritan Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock only to find hunger and a violent winter, hardly a true welcoming-party.

in

Cedar Creek’s new Flexbone offense installed prior to the start of the season has provided the Cougars with plenty of flexibility on that side of the ball.
More than a handful of Cougars have played important roles in helping that offense average 37 points per game this season, but no two have been more important than senior quarterback Tanner Disotell and junior running back Jace Moss.
Disotell and Moss will lead the seventh-seeded Cougars (8-4) into the Division IV playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday against third-seeded Southern Lab (10-1) in Baton Rouge.

But with both teams unbeaten in Southwestern Athletic Conference play and a berth in the SWAC Championship game at stake, things look bigger than ever for this year’s match-up.
Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. Saturday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” said GSU coach Broderick Fobbs. “The opportunity to play in the Louisiana Superdome, on Louisiana soil, with both schools being successful at their peak at this particular time. That’s about as good as it gets.
