Grambling State University student Corban Bell had an amazing month. He celebrated his birthday, fellow students approved his campus recycling initiative recently and he won the Toyota Green Initiative contest.
University President Frank G. Pogue made it official last week when he announced the news to the campus community.
“On behalf of this university ... the faculty and staff, all of your colleagues and alumni around the world, congratulations,” Pogue said to Bell as he grasped his hand firmly and looked him in the eye. “It’s an honor to be standing here with you.”

Council OKs A/V system, property deal
Hollingsworth mug.jpg

The Ruston City Council passed a resolution that should lead to the installation of an audio/video conferencing system during its monthly meeting last week.
Aldermen passed a motion to accept a bid of $153,813 from American Audio of Ruston to install the system in the city courtrooms and judge’s chambers. That equipment will also be used for various meetings held at the Civic Center/Courthouse.
“This will be a great addition and very useful for a number of purposes,” Mayor Dan Hollingsworth said.

Wanting to give a special gift to your mother on Mother’s Day? Why not give this special person something which will fill every Mother’s Day with beauty and memories for many years. I am speaking of the Queen of the climbing plants, the clematis. Can this track and field season get much better for Trey Hadnot?
Well, it did last weekend.
After an outstanding indoor season, the former Ruston High School star turned in one of the most memorable performances in Louisiana Tech University history.
The junior sprinter/relay member won four — count them, four — gold medals at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference outdoor championship meet held in Arlington, Texas.
Hadnot won the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.49.
He was No. 1 in the 400-m dash at 46.52.
