This adorable girl is Piper. Piper is about 7 months old and is ready to find her first loving family. She is an all-white American Bulldog mix. So cute and such a sweetie, she has a wonderful personality. Her adoption fee is $65. Call 251-DOGS for more information. Students get help moving into new dorms at GSU

Carrying bedspreads, mini-fridges, and mementos from home, the Grambling State University campus was swarming with new students, parents and relatives.  Elrick Truvillion was among them.
His mom, Shawanda Truvillion, held bags of food and bottles of water bottles for her son. Despite feeling sad that her son was leaving home, she said she’s excited about the opportunities. “Grambling is a good experience to teach my son,” she stated. “We just hope everything he needs for her future is here.”
President Frank G. Pogue is happy that Truvillion chose Grambling State.

Two College of Ed. programs at Tech earn accreditation

Two concentrations in Louisiana Tech’s College of Education received accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP.)
CACREP granted accreditation to clinical mental health counseling and school counseling, which are both concentrations within the counseling and guidance master’s program.

Bearcat pride remains stronger than ever

Bearcat Madness was held Saturday with many fans showing up to demonstrate their Bearcat Pride. The football team and the coaches were present to take pictures and introduce themselves to fans, the cheerleaders were present to lead the fans in cheers and the band did their usual as they played music for the fans to groove to. Also, supporters for the Cross Country teams and the Bearcat Belles were present to help provide food and drinks to the attendees, do face-painting and sell merchandise to those who want to display their spirit.

Getting used to early school starts

Yes, I’m probably old school — pun intended — but for me, it just doesn’t seem quite right.
It’s 7:30 a.m. on a mid-August day, and school has already started.
Whatever happened to school starting after Labor Day, and no earlier than 8:15 a.m.? It just doesn’t seem right to me for it all to be starting so early, but it has.

The Lincoln Parish School Board met in Regular Session on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Parish School Board Office, 410 South Farmerville Street, Ruston, Louisiana. Members present were Ms. Debbie Abrahm, Mr. Otha Anders (left the meeting early), Mr. Michael Barmore, Ms. Lisa Best, Mr. Curtis Dowling, Mr. Danny Hancock, Ms. Mattie Harrison, Ms. Lynda Henderson, Mr. Eddie Jones, Mr. George Mack, Jr., and Mr. Joe Mitcham.
Mr. Trott Hunt was absent.
