Meeting set for Choudrant

The board of aldermen for the village of Choudrant is set to meet at 7 p.m. Monday for their monthly meeting.
On the agenda for the aldermen to discuss are a few general items as well as the review of the audit for 2012-13.
Celeste Butler, village clerk, said she hadn’t received any requests for anything special to be included on the agenda.
Once the meeting is called to order by Mayor Bill Sanderson, the agenda and December meeting’s minutes will have to be approved.

Complex construction on track

The construction of the Lincoln Parish Public Safety Complex is moving along as scheduled in the new year.
Located off Road Camp Road, the facility has been funded through monies from the state and Governor’s office of Homeland Security. The facility is set to house all operations of the sheriff’s office when completed, with the exception of civil and probation departments. It could also be used to house offices for the parish fire chief and homeland security director.
Pictured above is the inside of the facility, that is set to be completed by the end of May 2014.

Nominations sought for award

Bill Best Award deadline is Jan. 24

Area residents have until Jan. 24 to submit nominations for the Ruston Rotary Club’s annual Bill Best Humanitarian Award.
The award recognizes a Lincoln Parish resident for outstanding contributions to humanitarian interest, unselfish giving and service to others. The award will be presented Feb. 4 during the annual Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce banquet.
“There are so many great people out there who do so many great things and they need to be recognized,” Rotary President Angie Biscomb said. “Our community needs to know how many wonderful people we have in Lincoln Parish.

Chamber to host Business Buffet

The Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce will host Kathy Wyatt on Jan. 10 as part of their upcoming Business Buffet series.
Ivana Flowers, communication and special events coordinator for the chamber, said the event is a chance for residents to learn specific business knowledge from a variety of organizations.
“All businesses have areas that they have specialized knowledge in because their business has a greater need in those particular areas,” Flowers said. “We are thrilled that we’re able to facilitate an event for them to share their knowledge.”

Dunkin’ ’Dogs shift Saturday game time

Kenyon McNeail (21) and the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team’s game against Longwood on Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center will now tip off at 4 p.m. The game time change was made to accommodate fans wanting to attend Tech’s last non-conference game of the season and make it home in time to watch New Orleans Saints opening round playoff game. The contest was originally scheduled for 6 p.m., which would have carried over into the start of the nationally-televised Saints-Eagles wild card playoff game.

Plette, Thompson to marry

Mary-Arthur Thompson, of Ruston, and Michael Plette, of Shreveport are pleased to announce their engagement and approaching wedding.

Mary-Arthur is the daughter of Russ and Ann Thompson, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Dickie and Melba Thompson, of Ruston, Linda Boyd, of Ruston and the late John Boyd.
She is a 2010 graduate of Ruston High School and a 2013 graduate of Louisiana Tech University. She graduated magna cum laude in Family Child Studies. She is currently employed at Life Choices of North Central Louisiana.

City Art Works to open national exhibit

Minden City Arts will host “The Way We Worked” Smithsonian traveling exhibition beginning today through Jan. 25.
Downtown Development Director Pattie Odom said, “We are pleased to have been chosen by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities as a location for this wonderful exhibit.”
To enhance the exhibit, Larry Milford has designed a section featuring the way we worked in the dairy industry in Webster Parish.
“The Dorcheat Museum has also installed a special pictorial vignette featuring photos of past industry in Minden.
