Blessings in the blink of an eye

I had a speck of dust in the corner of my eye the other evening. I blinked trying to remove it. I then realized it was 35 years. I was thoroughly enjoying a reoccurrence and repetition of that which started in my life 35 years prior. And the events were connected in a blink of an eye.
I was at the Jimmy Carter field at the Ruston Dixie complex. Jimmy, parenthetically, was one the nicest men I have ever known. The occasion was my 4-year-old granddaughter’s (Gracie) very first tee-ball game. As I barked out some instructions to her, it made me reflect on “the olden days.

La Main Street offers grant oppotunities

Incentives for redevelopment available

Ruston Main Street is soliciting Redevelopment Incentive Grant applications from downtown commercial building and/or business owners. The Louisiana Main Street program is able to offer two types of competitive grants — a $10,000 grant for major projects and a $2,500 grant for minor projects. Grants are available for either interior or exterior rehabilitation projects.

DOE gives new grants

Parish will receive funding for ‘next generation’

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Department of Education today announced the recipients of awards for the Believe and Prepare pilots, whereby schools and colleges work together to design preparation programs that provide students studying to be teachers with more time in the classroom and learning from seasoned educators. The proposals will inform future approaches the state will take to teacher training and development prior to candidates entering the classroom as full-time employees.
