Tech softball team to face SFA today

NACOGDOCHES — After a weekend off from the diamond, Louisiana Tech returns to action when the Lady Techsters travel to face Stephen F. Austin at 4 p.m. today in a single game at SFA Softball Field.
Tech (15-25) is coming off a 7-0 road win at Southeastern Louisiana last Wednesday in a game that saw Anna Cross hit a three-run home run and Bianca Duran and Pauline Tufi combine to throw seven innings of scoreless softball.

Tech baseball to play at UALR in midweek action

Fresh off a victory over Conference USA mate FIU, Louisiana Tech will step out of league play briefly as the Bulldogs travel to take on UALR beginning at 6 p.m. today at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock, Ark.
Tech (10-23, 4-14 C-USA) is coming off yet another series defeat this past weekend to FIU, but the Bulldogs gained a bit of confidence on Sunday after a 4-2 win over the Panthers snapped a nine-game losing streak.

CUSA academic medal winners announced

IRVING, Texas — A total of 28 Louisiana Tech student-athletes have earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal during the 2013-14 academic year, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced recently,
Medals are given to those C-USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.

Purifoy competes for Student of the Year

Earlier this year, A.E. Phillips fifth grader Emma Purifoy was selected as Student of the Year for Lincoln Parish. Now, Emma is among the top six for the statewide Student of the Year title.
“I’ll be happy no matter what they decide,” Emma said of the final judging. “I just feel honored that God’s given me this chance.”
Fifth grade math and social studies teacher Kathy Kirk said Emma exemplifies everything a student should be when being considered for the state Student of the Year.

McAllister doesn’t show

TEA Party appearance canceled late Monday morning

ifth District Congressman Vance McAllister cancelled his scheduled Monday night appearance here before the North Central Louisiana Tea Party.
The cancellation came only hours before McAllister, R-Swartz, was to have made his first public speech since the April 7 release of a surveillance camera videotape showing the freshman congressman kissing a married female staff member.

Advocates take action against sexual abuse

According to the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team, one out of four couples will experience domestic violence at some point in their relationship.
But there are two centers in Ruston that are here to help with sexual assault and domestic violence.
Terrie Queen Autrey, a community advocate with DART, said the organization is a domestic violence center that has been open since 1994.
In 2013, DART served more than 841 people and of those people the age range mostly tended to were age 18 and older, Autrey said.

‘Diesel Dawg’ to return to Shell Eco-Marathon

Louisiana Tech University’s award-winning eco-marathon team will return to national competition, April 25-27 in the Shell Eco-marathon Americas competition in Houston, with a new student-designed vehicle named “Diesel Dawg.”
The red and black, stealth design eco car will compete in the Urban Concept category along with their car from last year’s competition, “Tech Double X.”

Taking caution with landscape plants

Beautiful plants are a common sight in and around the house. House plants, flowering garden plants and large ornamental plants can be an enjoyable way to liven-up the environment. One point always stressed when deciding upon which plant for a site is to do some research on required growing conditions and plant characteristics. Not all plants require the same growing conditions and every plant has its unique characteristic which makes it special for an individual, but not all plants have desirable characteristics.

Tech’s dream on the way to coming true

It’s been a dream of Louisiana Tech University football fans for years.
Now that dream is finally on its way to becoming reality.
A host of Tech dignitaries, donors and athletic department personnel held a groundbreaking ceremony for the school’s South End Zone Facility at Joe Aillet Stadium during halftime of Saturday’s T-Day Red-Blue Spring Football Game.
