At 6 p.m. Sept. 19 the Lincoln Parish Fire District No. 1 training facility was full of people eager to learn the skills necessary to serve their community at their Firefighter School, or “Rookie School” as the seasoned firefighters call it.
Firefighter school began Sept. 19 with District Chief Danny Cross acknowledging the commissioners.

Poor rankings

‘LABI scorecard not a big deal’
Shadoin, Gallot.jpg

Two Lincoln Parish lawmakers say the poor rankings they received on this year’s Louisiana Association of Business and Industry legislative session scorecard don’t matter much.
Rep. Rob Shadoin, R-Ruston, scored 44 percent, while Sen. Rick Gallot, D-Ruston, rated 24 percent. LABI, the state’s largest business lobby group, annually ranks lawmakers based on whether legislators voted with LABI’s position on a select number of bills.
“I’d hate to be graded as a legislator on five post-selected bills and use that as an effectiveness rating for me or any other legislator,” Shadoin said.

Festival events set to begin

in

Dubach is strutting, cackling and crowing its way to the Louisiana Chicken Festival this Friday and Saturday. There are a variety of events going on this weekend — even talks from the animal experts of the Monroe Zoo, animals included.
The Dubach Restoration and Beautification Organization has coordinated the Chicken Festival for this year, and they have mixed some new in with the old.
“At 10 a.m., we will be having the Monroe Zoo coming to us,” Gina Stokes, coordinator for DRABO said. “There will be different animals and the experts will give talk about the animals.”
