Crawfish Boil benefits MOD

In the past four years, Community Trust Bank has raised more than $40,000 for the March of Dimes, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality.
The money raised has been through various avenues such as jean days and of course their annual Crawfish Boil.
Set for 4-7 p.m. Friday, Community Trust Bank’s Crawfish Boil and Silent Auction will also feature live music.

Just because you’re from Louisiana, doesn’t mean crawfishing is OK.
I can’t help but feel as if everything Jindal says concerning Common Core at this point is laced with insincerity and hidden motives. There has been rumor of Jindal having higher aspirations than those which are gubernatorial but he may flip so much that he flops himself out of political graces altogether.

Tech softball falls in heartbreaker

NATCHITOCHES — Kelly Kincannon gave Northwestern State an early 3-0 lead with her first inning home run.
And every time Louisiana Tech thought it had an answer, Kincannon had her own.
Kincannon’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning led Northwestern State to an 8-7 victory over Louisiana Tech before 332 fans at the Lady Demon Diamond Wednesday night.

RHS teams win in Haughton

The Ruston High School boys and girls track team each captured first place last week at the Haughton track meet. The RHS boys totaled 96.5 points, beating Airline (79.0), Haughton (76.5), Parkway (55) and Benton (44). Pictured above is Ruston’s James Davison placing second in the 1,600m run with a time of 4:44.06. Ruston’s Lady Bearcats won with 153 points, easily outdistancing Natchitoches Central (72), Parkway (69), Benton (48) and Haughton (41). Pictured below is Ruston’s Keke Wright winning the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.37.

ULM baseball edges past Grambling, 3-2

MONROE — Kodie Tidwell belted his first homer of the season to give ULM a 3-2 walkoff win Wednesday afternoon at Warhawk Field.
Grambling State (12-27) plated the first runs of the game with a pair of runs (one earned, one unearned) in the top of the first inning.
That would be all the runs the Tigers would score on Wednesday.
ULM (17-26) finally broke through with a pair of runs in the home half of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Tidwell tied the game with a two-RBI single up the middle as Dalton Todd and Josh Faciane came in to score.

GSU students approve athletics fee

GRAMBLING (AP) — Grambling State University’s athletic programs will get a finanical boost beginning in the fall after students approved an athletics fee that will generate an additional $1 million annually.
After students voted against the athletics fee last year, university officials launched an awareness campaign to show the need for another mandatory fee.
The fee will become effective in the fall. Each student will be assessed $100 per semester.

Pamela Jean Beck Toburen

Pamela Jean Beck Toburen, 68, of Ruston, died April 21, 2014 at her home in Ruston.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Burhkalter Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church.  Reverend Jerry Hillburn will officiate.  Visitation will be 9:00AM until 11:00AM service time Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Burkhalter Chapel. Pam was born November 23, 1945, at Colby, Kansas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Beck, Jr.  She grew up in Colby, graduating from Colby Community High School in 1963.. She began college at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

Ms. Kathy Mayo

Funeral services for Ms. Kathy L. Mayo, age 58 of Calhoun, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 25, 2014 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Wendell Sellers will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens in Calhoun under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Wayne Palmer Colvin

Memorial services for Wayne Palmer Colvin, age 85, of Ruston, LA will be held at 2PM, Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
Visitation will be at 1 PM until the beginning of the service. Officiating the services will be Dr. Mike Anderson. Wayne was born in Dubach, LA on August 16, 1928 to Jasper Lee Colvin and Lucille Ferguson Colvin and passed away on April 17, 2014 following a lengthy illness.
