Parks steps down as Tech golf coach

Louisiana Tech head golf coach Jeff Parks announced Thursday that he is resigning effective at the end of the season.
Tech Athletics Director thanked Parks for his service and commitment to the University and said a national search for his replacement will begin immediately.
Parks will be completing his 11th year at Tech this season with six years as head coach after serving five years as an assistant coach under Jean Hall.

Prep baseball playoffs continue today

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association baseball playoffs continue this weekend with three of the five teams still in the chase playing home games today and the other two sitting out this weekend with opening-round byes.
Class 5A Ruston won its opening playoff game on Tuesday and will be at home for a best of three series against defending state champion Catholic of Baton Rouge that will start with Game One at 6:30 today.
Tickets for today’s game will cost $7 while tickets for Saturday’s 1 p.m. contest will cost $10 with Game Three following 45 minutes later if necessary.

Piney Hills Bike Tour set for Saturday

The Tour of Piney Hills will be begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Ruston Junior High School. There will be staggered start times for different distances ridden. The options for the Tour include distances of 17, 25, 32 miles and the Metric Century, a little over 62 miles. The Tour is not only for experienced and serious cyclists riding the longer routes, but for families and children, wanting to experience the camaraderie and fun in biking, which can happen on the 6.75 mile Family Fun Route.

Lady Cougars set for quarterfinals

Hallie Rambin and the Cedar Creek Lady Cougars will take on Mangham at noon today in quarterfinal action of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A playoffs in Sulphur. Downsville Charter School is also set for quarterfinal play against Kilbourne at 2 p.m. today in Sulphur.

Tech baseball travels to Marshall

Weekend events galore for Lincoln Parish

There are events set to take place throughout Ruston this weekend.
Kicking off the weekend is Ruston Community Theatre’s production of “All Because of Agatha” set to be performed at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dixie Center for the Arts.
“All Because of Agatha” is a comedy written by Jonathan Troy, which follows a couple as they move into a suspected haunted house.
To keep those art lovers at bay, the Ruston Spring Gallery Crawl will be held from 6-9 p.m. today.

Adding 'color' is harmful to skin

We recently published an article from the Associated Press on the use of tanning beds by minors.
The article stated how both the House and Senate have agreed to prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from using a tanning bed in the state of Louisiana.
In a 37-0 vote in the Senate, the bill goes back to the House for final passage because of a technical change that was made.
Supporters say the ban would lower the risk of skin cancer associated with exposure to ultraviolent radiation from sunlight or tanning lamps and beds.

Rev. Joe A. Skipper

Rev. Joe A. Skipper of Simsboro, was called home to be with Jesus at the age of 75 on April 29, 2014 at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, AR after a long battle with a lengthy illness. Bro. Joe was born on March 22, 1939 in Dubach to William Levi Skipper and Pearl Jones Skipper. He was a member of the Pentecostals of Ruston.

Retiring from the glass plant in 2004, he served his country in the US Air Force spending a tour of duty in Korea. Joe met the love of his life on August 4th, 1963 and they were married on May 6th, 1966.

Monroe Franklin Copeland

A celebration of life service for Monroe Franklin Copeland will be held on Sat., May 3, at 2pm at Pisgah Baptist Church in Bernice. The visitation will be from 12pm - 2pm at the church. M.F. went to be with his Lord on April 30, 2014. It was his twin grandsons, Ramsey and Andy Ballard’s birthday.
