Bulldogs to battle Texas A&M

in

After 12 straight home games to open the season, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will pack their bags and hit the road for the first time this season for a three-game series against SEC foe Texas A&M beginning at 6:35 p.m. today at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The two teams will then face off at the same time Saturday before wrapping up the series with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch Sunday afternoon in College Station.

Bearcats blast Destrehan, 10-0

Ben LeBlanc’s home run highlighted Ruston High School’s 10-0 defeat of Destrehan Thursday as part of the Trey Altick Classic. RHS (2-3) will play Lutcher at 5:30 p.m. today, St. Amant at noon Saturday and Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Organization helps young women

We’ve all seen them out and about the Ruston-Lincoln area working hard. The time of year has come for young girls to get out there in the hopes of raising the most money through selling cookies — but not just any cookies, Girl Scout cookies.
The mission of the Girl Scouts organization is to develop girls who have courage, confidence and character — who will one day make the world a better place.
Today, there are more than 3 million people involved — with roughly 2 million being actual Girl Scouts and the rest primarily volunteers.

A man called ‘Cotton’

Writer’s Note: Cotton Fuller passed away this week. I wrote this about him not too long ago. So long Cotton. May you rest in the arms of our Loving Savior.
Somebody once said that there were so many Colvins living in my hometown of Dubach that if you met a stranger on the sidewalk and greeted him by saying, “Hello, Mr. Colvin,” you had an 87 percent chance of being right. And if he frowned at you, you could correct your mistake by saying, “Excuse me, Mr. Fuller.”

Time of year to support the babies

This year 4 million babies will benefit from March of Dimes research, vaccines, education and breakthroughs.
In 2013:
• $23 million was invested in research to defeat premature birth and other infant health problems.
• 2.3 million moms, dads and health professionals received community services and education to improve babies health.
• 90,000 families in 131 hospitals were offered information and comfort through NICU Family Support.
• Nonmedically indicated early delivers in march of Dimes partner hospitals declined by 83 percent.
