Locals reminisce about old parish jail

It has been years since “The Alamo” has been in working condition, but that hasn’t stopped people from wondering about the origins of the once fully functional jail located at the Lincoln Parish Dentention Center Complex.
Lincoln Parish Sheriff Mike Stone said he believed the facility received its name because of the design, which resembled that of The Alamo in Texas.
“I came on with the force in 1976,” Stone said. “Back then The Alamo is where all the cooking was done, and we had to go out to pick up the meals and bring them back to the jail.

O.K.'s Corral: Can Summitt reach the top in women’s hoops?

in
Davis, OK.jpg

Let all of the jokes and one-liners about Tyler Summitt’s youthful looks begin.
Might as well get them out of the way before the 23- year-old coaches his first game with the Lady Techsters.
They’ve been circulating ever since he was introduced as the sixth head coach in the program’s history.
Such as:
• Tyler doesn’t look a day over 15.
• His favorite television show is Sesame Street.
• He has already been mistaken for one of Tech’s ball boys.
OK, enough is enough.
So he’s younger looking than Justin Bieber.

Pencil in Ryan Higgins as Louisiana Tech’s starting quarterback after Saturday’s T-Day Red-Blue Spring Game, which the Red Team won 37-20 before a crowd of around 5,000 at Joe Aillet Stadium.
But you might want to keep an eraser on hand before the season begins.
Higgins connected with Paul Turner on a hitch-and-go for a 70–yard touchdown on the first play of game to start the offensive fireworks early on.

(Un)Usual Suspects in fight for green jacket

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Jordan Spieth -— rhymes with thief— is a 20-year-old who could steal the 2014 Masters.
Spieth and 2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson, tied at the top at 5-under and 211, make up the final pairing when they tee off (1:40 p.m.) in today’s final round.
It’s the tightest Masters field since 2006. Only 14 shots separate the top from bottom. Eleven players are within four shots of the lead.
In that group, only Jim Furyk (2-under) and Fred Couples (1-under) have won a major.
