Smith named to second team while Hamilton a third-sring selection

After helping lead the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to a share of the Conference USA regular season title and a spot in the National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals, guards Kenneth Smith and Alex Hamilton were selected to the All-LSWA teams in a vote by a panel of statewide media members and sports information directors.
Smith was named to the second team while Hamilton was named to the third team, adding to their numerous other postseason accolades.

’Cats sweep past Lions

Ruston High School stayed in first place of the District 2-5A baseball race as the Bearcats swept a three-game series over Ouachita Parish High School over the weekend.
The Bearcats opened with a 11-0 road win on Thursday as RHS totaled 13 hits in the game.
Ben LeBlanc led the way with three hits in five at bats while Gunner Durrett (one double, one RBI), Cannon Brasuell (two doubles, one RBI), Garrett Hipp (three RBIs) and Seth White (one double, one triple, three RBIs) added two hits each.

Diamond ’Dogs break nine-game losing streak

in

After suffering through a nine-game winless stretch that dated back to March 25, Louisiana Tech was able to celebrate a victory with a 4-2 win over Conference USA foe FIU Sunday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Tech (10-23, 4-14 C-USA) was finally able to come through with timely hits in the fifth inning of Sunday’s series finale, scoring three runs in the frame to help propel the Bulldogs to a much-needed victory over the Panthers from FIU (26-10, 10-8 C-USA).
A solo home run by Thomas Simoneaux in the sixth gave Tech an insurance run for a 4-2 win.

Musically inclined hit the stage

Steele Moegle, an associate professor of music and head of the Piano Studios at Louisiana Tech University, was one of performers Saturday who showcased their talents during the ninth annual Joe Woods Wildwood Express Country Music Showcase at the Dixie Center for the Arts. Proceeds from the event go to upkeep of the Dixie, where Woods and his band played for years starting in the mid 1970s.

Homeowner stops man in doggie door

A Ruston man was arrested Saturday night after attempted to gain entry to a residence through a pet door.
Christian Kane Killen, 20, of 1602 Ravine, was arrested on one count of unlawful entry of an inhabited dwelling, after a homeowner in the 1600th block of Robert St. contacted police.
According to the arrest affidavit, the homeowner contacted the Ruston Police Department in reference to a burglary in process and was able to apprehend one of the suspects.

Ruston receives recognition

For the 12th consecutive year, Ruston’s light and power department has been named to the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Line USA list.
Tree Line USA recognizes public and private utilities for pursuing practices that protect and enhance urban trees.
To make the list, the department had to meet five tree-care standards including sponsoring a tree planting and public education program, participate in an Arbor Day celebration, provide annual worker training in best tree-care practices and maintain a tree-based energy conservation program.

Tech to conduct disaster drill with local public health, safety agencies

in

Louisiana Tech University’s Division of Nursing, counseling center and police department along with the Ruston Fire Department, Ruston Police Department, Northern Louisiana Medical Center and Green Clinic Surgical Hospital will join together to conduct a disaster drill on Thursday at Hutchinson residential hall on Tech’s campus.
