Techster soccer begins camp

Louisiana Tech soccer coach Kevin Sherry welcomed in 26 players to campus Wednesday for a full day of dormitory and apartment move-ins, team meetings and a meet and greet with the soccer community, capped off with a ceremonial flipping of the switch on the new stadium lights at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
And on Thursday Sherry welcomed the team onto the soccer field as the Lady Techsters took part in their first fall practice of the year only 15 days away from the season opener.

Registration open for Top Dawg baseball league

Louisiana Tech head baseball coach Wade Simoneaux has announced open registration for his annual Top Dawg Fall Baseball League for players in grades eighth through 12.
The fall season is set to begin Sept. 15 and last six Sundays with the league ending Oct. 20 with Tech baseball players serving as the league’s coaches for each team.
The first 90 players to register will then be divided into six separate teams and compete against each other in the fall league.
Cost of participation in the fall league is $300 and jerseys will be provided for each individual player.

Tech tennis signs highly-touted duo

Louisiana Tech head coach Freddy Gomez announced Thursday the signing of two international standouts to the 2013 tennis recruiting class.
Marta Sramkova from Bratislava, Slovakia, and Jazmin Britos from Villarrica, Paraguay, are both highly-touted players who make up the No. 14 mid-major class in the country according to the Tennis Recruiting Network.
The ranking is third best among all Conference USA members behind only Marshall and UAB.

Shawn Leigh Norris Chandler

Funeral services for Shawn Leigh Norris Chandler, 49 of Ruston, LA will be held at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston, on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.   Rev. Wilton Wall will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00p.m – 7:00p.m. at Owens Memorial Chapel Friday, August 9.

James Maurice Kay, Sr

Funeral services for James Maurice Kay, Sr. age 80, of Ruston will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jerry Hilbun and Dr. Michael Hawley. Interment will follow at Henry Cemetery in Hico under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mr. Kay was born February 20, 1933 and passed away August 8, 2013. He is preceded in death by his wife Anna R. Kay.

Funeral services for Thelma “Puddin” McGee Kelley, 91, of Bernice LA, will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Bernice with Bro. Charles Malone and Lamar Skinner officiating. Interment will follow at Bernice City Cemetery in Bernice, LA. Puddin was born on May 30, 1922 in Bernice, LA and passed away on August 8, 2013 in Ruston, LA. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bernice. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Charles H. “Chip” Kelley III, one sister, and two brothers. Puddin Kelley was an avid sports fan.

On October 31, 1945, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Margaret Ann Adams Jones, affectionately known as “Honey” became the first-born of Adell Adams and Leona Drew Adams. Later, two other siblings were born, Sandra Adams Henderson and Adell Adams, Jr. “Honey” was baptized at an early age at Hopewell Baptist Church in the Stoner Hill Community of Shreveport, Louisiana, Reverend C. E. Galloway, Pastor. She later joined New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling, Louisiana, Reverend Roosevelt Bryant, Jr., Pastor. “Honey” attended the Caddo Parish School System where she graduated from Booker T.
