Inside Tech Basketball airs tonight

Centric Federal Credit Union’s Inside Tech Basketball radio show presented by Miller Lite will air at 6 p.m. tonight from Scott’s Catfish in Ruston. The one-hour radio show will air live on the LA Tech Sports Network on ESPN 97.7 FM. The show will feature a half-hour segment with Lady Techster coach Teresa Weatherspoon and Malcolm Butler and a half-hour segment with Bulldog coach Mike White (pictured above) and Dave Nitz. Tech fans are encouraged to come to Scott’s, enjoy some great food and participate in the show.

Support LPSB district report

Citizens of Lincoln Parish will have a unique opportunity to connect with their local school system this Wednesday by coming to hear Lincoln Parish School Board Superintendent Danny Bell give his annual “State of the District” report at 11:30 a.m. in the Lincoln Community Room of the Lincoln Parish Library.

RJHS students get golden advice

Sometimes advice from a “Rowdy” new friend is all a young person needs.
Especially when the “Rowdy” new friend is famous and the young person really has no idea of why.
That was the case last week for some students at Ruston Junior High as three-time Olympic swimming gold medalist Rowdy Gaines spoke to them.
The appearance was organized and sponsored by local LIMU representatives. Gaines, a LIMU spokesman/ambassador, said he often uses that role to get out and speak to youth across the country.

Celebrating 20 years of community service

Consider with me what life in this community was like 20 years ago.
The blueprint of both the city and the campus of Louisiana Tech University were both very different. Our downtown has been revitalized with new businesses and landscapes, old buildings such as the Dixie Theater and the old Fire Station repurposed for thriving new enterprises. Tech has been completely transformed with the demolition of several prominent buildings and the construction of many new ones.

Happy Gardeners Society

The first meeting of 2014 for the Happy Gardeners Society was held on Jan. 9 in the home of Linda Richmond with co-hostesses, Ann Jones and Cecelia Hedrick.
The guest speaker was the Rev. Edith Hill, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ruston.
She gave a very interesting report on her mission trip to Haiti. Their project is Living Waters for the World. They go to the water source and purify the water.

Funeral services for Margaret “Alene” Brazzel, age 91, of Corinth will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Dr. Michael Hawley. Interment will follow at Corinth Cemetery near Hico under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mrs. Brazzel was born September 05, 1922 and passed away January 23, 2014. She is preceded in death by her husband: Melvin Brazzel; son: Leon Brazzel and grandson: Jonathon Brazzel. Mrs. Brazzel was the owner of Alene's Beauty Shop for over 45 Years.

He is preceded in death by his son, Carl Calhoun and parents, Make and Jewel Calhoun.
