Mayor Edward R. Jones opened the Special Called Session of the Grambling City Council at Grambling City Hall. Mr. William Arrington offered the invocation and led the council and congregation into the Pledge of Allegiance. Present were the following Council members: Birdex Copeland, Jr., Yanise Days, Cathy Holmes, Cullen Jackson, and Roy Jackson. Absent: None. It was moved by Council member Yanise Days and seconded by Council member Birdex Copeland, Jr. to adopt the agenda.

REGULAR MEETING
June 16, 2014
The Village of Choudrant Town Council met in regular session. Present were Mayor Bill Sanderson, Alderman Ragan Aswell, Alderman Ricky Maier, Alderman Brandon Williams and guests.
Meeting was called to order at 7:13 p.m. by Mayor Sanderson. Mayor Sanderson gave prayer.
Motion to approve the agenda was made Alderman William and seconded by Alderman Aswell. Motion was approved.
Motion to approve the minutes of April 7, 2014, was made by Alderman Aswell, seconded by Alderman Williams Approved.

‘The Sound of Music’ set to begin Thursday

The piney hills of northern Louisiana may have their own tune, but this week, Ruston Community Theatre is adding an Austrian twist with “The Sound of Music” directed by Dee Alexander.
The play will open at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dixie Center for the Arts. It will also run at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for students and children.

Miller shares a lifetime of laughs

Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 reads “To every thing there is a season … A time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.”
The Rev. B.K. Miller takes his preaching seriously, even if he throws in doses of humor to
help his listeners pay full attention to what he’s saying.
A native of Sicily Island, Miller has called Ruston home since he came here to play football and baseball at Louisiana Tech University. After earning a sociology degree, Miller went to seminary school in New Orleans before beginning a ministry that has stretched more than five decades.

LPL to host Bone Lady

When a skeleton is all that is left of a crime scene, forensic anthropologist aka “The Bone Lady,” Mary Manhein is called in to solve the case.
The public is invited to the Lincoln Parish Library to get an unforgettable glimpse into the human stories behind the remains at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Library Events Center. Due to the nature of her presentation, Manhein will present a separate program for teens that will be held earlier at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Choudrant OKs sales tax budget

The Board of Aldermen for the village of Choudrant met in regular session Monday night with only a single item of new business to discuss.
Brought before the board was the approval of the Lincoln Parish Sales and Use Tax Commission 2014-15 proposed budget.
Mayor Bill Sanderson said the commission’s total expense for 2014-15 is $227,793.
“The total cost has gone down this year because there are some administrators retiring,” Sanderson said.
