Club News: The Pierian Club

The December 2013 meeting was a tasty salad luncheon at the festive home of Shirley Reagan. Members visited and enjoyed the many handmade Christmas decorations of the Reagan home.
January saw Pierians meeting at the lovely home of Bobbie Sue Lann. Helping her serve were co-hostesses Carolyn Russell and Janice Terry. Since the program presenter was ill, members read aloud the Pierian Constitution and ByLaws, which is traditionally the May program for the club.

Darts for DART Tourney

The brothers of Kappa Sigma fraternity at Louisiana Tech University are sponsoring the Fourth Annual Darts for DART Tournament, to be held Thursday at the Dawg House Sports Grill. Registration starts at 7:30 p.m., and the games begin at 8 p.m. Above, Dawg House Manager Brad Lomax, right, presents last year's tournament proceeds to Jed Dance, Kappa Sigma alumnus and founder of this tournament.

Ruston Lions Club

Events to end the violence

Beginnng Saturday and throughout next week, the days are full of ways for Lincoln Parish residents to step up and help put an end to domestic violence.
The first event is sure to be a fun time for anyone who swings by Cook Park from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday. The inaugural “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” will have men taking strides to understand women by literally taking a walk in her shoes — whether it be flip flops, fuzzy slippers or a pair of stilettos.

With Crimea’s recent hotly debated vote to be annexed into Russia, many Western countries are looking into ways to punish the superpower for what they see as a breach of international protocol.
While starting an armed conflict with Russia has been generally disregarded as an option, many Western powers are looking to hit the Russians in their wallets. Whose wallets are really being hit, though?

Changing the scenery for inmates

Earlier this week you may have read about the Lincoln Parish Detention Center gearing up to begin hosting educational classes for inmates.
But what you may not realize is that Lincoln Parish isn’t the first place to begin implementing such practices and certainly won’t be the last.
Unfortunately many of those incarcerated never graduated high school and a life of crime is all they have ever known.

James Stuart Baker

James Stuart Baker, son of James Thomas Baker and the late Ineta Hood Baker, entered eternal rest on March 25, 2014. Stuart, a native of Metairie, LA, was born on June 29, 1963.

He is survived by his father James T. Baker, his sister Melissa Baker Schroeder, his brother-in-law Richard Schroeder, his nephews and nieces Jacob, Benjamin, Hannah, Abigail, and Silas Schroeder, and a host of relatives.
