Senses stirred as weather cools down

Stepping out on the porch with my morning cup of Community coffee, I feel something stirring in the air. Before taking a seat, I step back inside and slip on a light jacket because my thermometer reads 53 degrees.
There is no time of year to get my senses stirred like right now. We have been gifted with a milder-than-normal summer with showers nearly every week. I may be forced to mow my yard into November.

Local couple celebrates diamond anniversary

Jim and Jane Ball, of Ruston, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married on Aug. 29, 1957 at Trinity Methodist Church in Ruston. They have two children, Bob Ball and wife Alicia, of Ruston, and Meg Bullock and husband Doug, of Oregon, Washington. Their grandchildren are Molly Thornton, Brandon Ball, Chris Bullock and Dylan Bullock.

Neely, Taylor celebrate wedding

Preslie Rose Neely, of Merryville, Louisiana, and Aaron Christopher Taylor, of Choudrant, were united in holy matrimony during a 6 p.m. ceremony on Sept. 2 at Sainte Terre in Benton.

Steven Blaney officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Vince and Kristi Neely, of Merryville. She is the granddaughter of Larry and Donita Carroll, of Merryville; Earseal Veuleman, of Deridder; and Glen and Norma Neely, of Merryville.

The bride is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She is employed at Origin Bank in Ruston.
