Tarbutton ceremony reset

Officials have changed the time for Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Tarbutton Road interchange and overpass project at Interstate 20. The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. instead of the originally announced 10:30 a.m.
Gov. John Bel Edwards, who had been expected to participate, now is not scheduled to attend, Erin Buchanan, public information officer for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, in Bossier City, said this morning.

Adopt-A-School celebrates 10 years of partnerships

Lincoln Parish ACHIEVE’s and the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce’s successful Adopt-A-School program, which gathered a record number of 103 partners this school year, celebrates 10 years of partnering community stakeholders with local schools to boost community involvement in the area.

Garden of the Month named for October

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Bell on Forest Creek Drive is the October Garden of the Month selected by the Ruston Garden Club. This seasonally decorated garden features fountains, a low stone wall and a peaceful feeling to be enjoyed by passersby.

Daughters of the American Revolution

Long Leaf Pine Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at Trinity United Methodist Church with 12 members and two guests present.
In the absence of regent Kay Goss-Knotts past regent Melissa Wiygul opened the meeting with the DAR ritual and conducted chapter business.
Wiygul presented the President General’s report and encouraged members to read the National Defender online at the NSDAR website.
Secretary Kara Giddings read the minutes and they were approved.

Things to know about visiting a patient under care

Being a patient in a hospital or nursing home can be very depressing at times.
However, don’t assume that the patient wants to have visitors.
Sometimes the patient just might not feel well enough.
Here are some tips if you’re planning a visit:
• Call a family member or close friend to be sure that the patient would like to have visitors.
• If you don’t know a family member, you can call patient information at the hospital/nursing home to be sure they are allowed to have visitors or would like to have visitors.

Former LSU, NFL legend Y.A. Tittle dies at 90

Y.A. Tittle, the Hall of Fame quarterback and 1963 NFL Most Valuable Player, has died. He was 90.
His family confirmed to LSU, where Tittle starred in college, that he passed away Sunday night at Stanford Hospital near his home in California.

Bearcats beat Capt. Shreve; host Parkway tonight

Anna Pody (above) and the Ruston High School volleyball team, ranked No. 3 in the state, defeated Captain Shreve in straight sets (25-7, 25-11, 25-10) on Thursday and will play host to Parkway at 6 p.m. today. Reagan Lee had 14 kills to lead RHS against Captain Shreve while Maya Terry and 11 kills and five aces while Kaylee Broom added six kills. Reanne Ginn led the Bearcats with 12 digs while Abby Ambrose recorded 27 assist for RHS.

GSU sweeps SWAC weekly awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Grambling State University swept all four weekly Southwestern Athletic Conference football honors, the conference announced on Monday.
Devante Kincade was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week, while De’Andre Hogues earned the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week. Anfernee Mullins picked up SWAC Newcomer honors and Marc Orozco garnered Specialist accolades.

State Fair is in the air in north Louisiana

Cool weather will be here soon.There are many things I love about fall; cool weather, the beautiful red, yellow, and orange leaves, and the State Fair of Louisiana.
The State Fair of Louisiana located in Shreveport is full of excitement. Of course there are the rides, meeting up with friends, the shows, the animals, the exhibits, and all the delicious food. I’m especial fond of the cotton candy.
You don’t want to miss the 4-H livestock shows and the 4-H talent show. This year’s State Fair promises all of this and more.
