LANDON JAMES JOYNER

Landon James Joyner, infant, passed away on February 17, 2017.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Harmony Chapel Cemetery in Hico LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Father Frank Folino will officiate. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.

Cedar Creek junior named a top youth volunteer

Cedar Creek School junior Anna Katherine Tollett, 16, has been named one of Louisiana’s top two youth volunteers of 2017 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism.
She is one of only two recognized in the state. Zach Morgan of Denham Springs was also selected to be honored.

Panel nixes request for storage buildings

Ruston’s Planning & Zoning Commission on Monday turned down a developer’s request to build storage buildings adjacent to residential property on Kavanaugh Road.
Commissioners said while they agree with KDV Investments that there’s a need for the RV, boat and climate control units, the location just wasn’t right.

Lady Cougars defeat Central Catholic, 55-33

Victory puts Cedar Creek in quarterfinals of Div. IV playoffs

Anna Larr Roberson led the way with 28 points Monday night as Cedar Creek took a second-round Div. IV girls basketball playoff win, defeating Central Catholic 55-33 at the CCS gym.
Mary Taylor Fuqua added 10 points and nine boards for the Cougars, who also received 12 points from Savannah Freeman and five points and four assists from Savannah Rojas.
“It was a great atmosphere,” Cougars coach Gene VanLandenberg said. “The student section was rocking and we had a full gym.

Diamond ’Dogs play host to UALR today

Following a weekend sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Louisiana Tech returns to J.C. Love Field for a midweek tilt against Little Rock at 6 p.m. today.
This will be the first of two meetings between the Trojans and Bulldogs as Louisiana Tech is scheduled to travel to Little Rock for a matchup on April 19.
Opening weekend was a roaring success for Louisiana Tech against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Bulldogs won all three games by a double-digit margin and collected their first non-conference sweep at the Love Shack since 2014.
