Public Notice is hereby given that voters from Precincts 10-5 and 10-6 will use the Ruston Public Works Complex located at 701 East Tennessee Avenue, Ruston, Louisiana 71270 for the November 18, 2017 election. This action is necessary due to the recent fire at the Paul Slaton Headstart Center. For questions about this change, please contact the Lincoln Parish Registrar of Voters at 251-5110.

New program to engage students with community

More than 33 Lincoln Parish school district sophomores participated in a two-day exercise to brainstorm ideas of how to engage in the community.
The first ever Civic Engagement Institute brought representatives from Choudrant High, Ruston High and Simsboro High schools with the ultimate goal of teaching students how to get more involved in the community.
The 33 students worked on identifying issues they were passionate about, researched and presented to a panel of community stakeholders, said Cathi Cox-Boniol, Lincoln Parish ACHIEVE coordinator.

Belton to serve as Louisiana Tech commencement speaker

Third Judicial District Attorney John F. K. Belton, whose district is Lincoln and Union parishes, will be the keynote speaker for Louisiana Tech University’s fall commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, in the Thomas Assembly Center.
Those family and friends who are unable to attend commencement can watch the event via Facebook Live at facebook.com/LATech.

FCA celebrates 50 years

in

Support and prayer will help continue the North Central Louisiana Fellowship of Christian Athletes as the organization’s local chapter celebrates 50 years of existence.
That was the message from several speakers to more than 200 local athletes and coaches at the annual North Central Louisiana FCA annual luncheon Wednesday at Louisiana Tech University’s Davison Athletic Complex.
“Athletes have their platform to reach other students,” said Brooke Stoehr, Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters basketball coach. “And it can all be done through prayer and support.”

Voters head to the polls Saturday

in
Treasurer’s race only item on the ballot

Lincoln Parish voters join their peers across the state Saturday in returning to the polls to elect the state’s next treasurer.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Voters must bring photo ID.
The race between Republican John Schroder, of Covington, and Democrat Derrick Edwards, of New Orleans, is the only item on the local ballot.
Edwards, an accountant and attorney, led the statewide primary balloting and came in second in Lincoln Parish. Schroder, a former state representative, ran fourth locally in what was a six-person primary.

Tech’s Monne named All-CUSA

IRVING, Texas — For the first time since 2014, the Louisiana Tech volleyball program saw a student-athlete earn All-Conference USA postseason accolades, as senior Marta Monne was named Second Team All-Conference USA following a vote by the league’s 13 head coaches.
After becoming the first Lady Techster to receive First Team All-Louisiana accolades last season, Monne joins Rebecca Redgen (Second Team All-C-USA, 2014) as the only two players to earn All-Conference USA recognition in the program’s history.
