Thanks to a scoreboard clearing home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, Louisiana Tech pushed their home winning streak to an NCAA-leading 14 games.
Raphael Gladu was the hero of the night as the senior blasted the 3-1 offer from Little Rock left-hander Cole Osburn onto the train tracks that rest beyond the right field wall, a three-run shot that put Louisiana Tech back ahead 4-2.

GERALDINE (GERRY) YARBOROUGH LAMBRIGHT

Geraldine (Gerry) Yarborough Lambright went to her Heavenly Father on February 21, 2017 at the age of 90. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church Chapel on Sunday, February 26 at 1:00 with Rev Rolly Walker officiating. Gerry (Nana) was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend to many. She was born in Columbia, Mississippi, on June 11, 1926. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1944.

JOEL L "DICK" AMBROSE

Joel L "Dick" Ambrose, age 89 of Ruston, died February 21, 2017. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, February 24, 2017 at Douglas Cemetery in Choudrant under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. The public is invited to come by the funeral home to sign the register book prior to the service.

BRANDON W. DURDEN

Brandon W. Durden, age 72, of Ruston, LA passed away on February 20, 2017 at North Louisiana Medical Center after a brief illness. A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Brandon was born on March 25, 1944 in Ruston to William Watson and Sarah Gill Durden. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Ruston, LA. After graduating from Ruston High School, he went to work in Singapore as a chief engineer on diesel engines in the South Pacific.

Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park in Monroe, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Mr. George was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and the owner/operator of George’s Appliance Repair.

RPD warns against new phone scam

The Ruston Police Department is warning citizens of a new telephone scam that asks for personal information and money.
The calls are a new variation of a tax scam that asks for payments using credit card numbers or to send money electronically that satisfies an arrest warrant, RPD Deputy Chief Clint Williams said.
“Do not give them your personal or credit card information and do not send them money electronically,” he said.
Report these scams by calling RPD at 255-4141.

Youth of the Year recognized

D’Anthony Lyons to represent entire club at the state level in March

The crowd gathered in the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center erupted in applause as the 2017 Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Louisiana named the three Youth of the Year Tuesday — Joran Parker, Chilaydrien Newton and D’Anthony Lyons.
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys and Girls Club member can receive, board President Drake Mills said.

Ruston Master Gardeners to hold Daffodil Seminar

The North Central Louisiana Master Gardeners will hold their fifth annual seminar on March 4 from 8 a.m. until noon at Lomax Hall of Louisiana Tech University.
The theme for this year’s seminar is “Daffodils: Bring Your Best Buds.”
Admission is $15 at the door. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and speakers will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be door prizes and refreshments.
In addition to the featured speakers, two special events will be held.
