Simsboro home lost in blaze

At 3:36 p.m. Monday, the Lincoln Parish Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Fellowship Extension Road in Simsboro.
A command vehicle was the first to arrive on scene for the Lincoln Parish Fire Department and it reportedly found heavy fire throughout the single-story wooden framed house. Officials have stated that the house was a complete loss.
Entry was made through the rear of the structure and the fire was extinguished.

South Ruston sewer work to begin soon

Improvements to a sanitary sewer lift station that serves a large portion of southeast Ruston will begin within the next 30 to 60 days.
The city’s Board of Aldermen on Monday accepted San-Tech of Ruston’s low bid of $270,800 for the project. Aldermen also authorized the first phase of a planned apron expansion at the Ruston Regional Airport. That project is expected to begin in October.

Grant offers training to area math teachers

Last week, area math teachers finished up a training camp geared toward giving them some fresh ideas for their classes.
This is the third year that Lincoln Parish has been able to offer training to area teachers as part of a Math Science Partnership grant.

AgCenter computer center dedicated

Central Louisiana residents will soon have access to the LSU AgCenter’s state-of-the-art computer training center that was dedicated on Aug. 1 at the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center.
The center is seen as an opportunity to bring the connectivity of the Internet to the people, said LSU AgCenter Chancellor Bill Richardson.
“If you’re not on the Internet, you’re really missing out. This is a chance to educate people.” Richardson said. “It’s a literacy project with some outstanding equipment.”

Hard work in ‘Summer Heat’

Residents might have noticed that the paper has been filled with a few extra drug-related arrests in the past couple of weeks.
That’s because the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team, a joint task force comprised of the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Ruston Police Department, the Grambling Police Department and the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office, have been working hard on Operation Summer Heat.
Local law enforcement leaders describe Operation Summer Heat as an ongoing effort by LPNET to crack down on illegal drug activities and associated crimes.

Last month, I visited the Lincoln Parish Library for the first time in seven years. I have a lot of memories in the library, and stepping into the library after that long hiatus was refreshing.
