NT@R, Tech partner together in 2014

With plans now developed through 2014, the partnership between New Tech @ Ruston and the Department of Kinesiology at Louisiana Tech University continues to blaze new trails for both partners.
Initially forged as a mechanism to introduce technology integrations into the physical education settings, the vibrant partnership has grown to not only educate the department instructors about project-based learning but also to begin implementing the highly engaging 21st Century learning model into the more traditional university learning environment.

Ruston school projects benefit entire parish

By the end of 2016, the Ruston District No. 1 schools will look a lot different than they do today.
During a special Building and Grounds Committee meeting on Monday, Architect Mike Walpole laid out his plans for exactly when the various projects approved in the October bond issuance vote will be completed.
The first project, which is the returfing and relighting of the Ruston High School football field, is likely to make Bearcat fans very excited. School officials made the decision that because of increased safety and decreased upkeep, artificial turf was the way to go.

Mayor emphasizes collaboration

When Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth was notified several weeks ago that the city is in line for an additional $4 million from the state for the Tarbutton Road interchange project, he was quick to thank other governmental entities and the local legislative delegation for their help with getting the project to where it is.
“We have accomplished much because of an emphasis on comprehensive planning, a willingness on the part of … city officials to emphasize the regional importance of Ruston and thus to collaborate with other local governments,” Hollingsworth said.

Techsters to open C-USA play

Tech plays host to Southern Mississippi tonight in Thomas Assembly Center

After a dozen years in the Western Athletic Conference, Louisiana Tech will get its first taste of life in Conference USA when the Lady Techsters host Southern Mississippi at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon who is in her sixth season on the Tech sideline knows that playing in the new league poses some obstacles.

Nalborska ranked 15th in ITA Southern Region

Louisiana Tech’s Joanna Nalborska has been ranked 15th in the ITA Division I Southern Region rankings, released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The sophomore is coming off an impressive fall season where she advanced to the singles finals of three different tournaments, taking home the flight one singles at the NSU Lady Demon Fall Invite.
The Warsaw, Poland native also reached the Round of 16 at the ITA Southern Regionals with back-to-back straight set wins, 6-0, 6-1 over Ariel Morton of LSU and 6-2, 6-3 over Marija Milutinovic of Ole Miss.

Robert (Bob) George Peper

Robert (Bob) George Peper, 62, passed away peacefully at his beloved farm and home in Choudrant, Louisiana on Monday, January 6, 2014. He was born July 16, 1951 in Berlington, Wisconsin to George and Beverly (Haan) Peper. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Kathy (Ziaya) whom he married in January, 1971 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Bob was an avid adventurer. He and Kathy were fortunate enough to have opportunity to live in such beautiful states as Wisconsin, Alaska, Texas, and Louisiana. In Louisiana, Bob, owned and operated the dairy equipment company, Beaver Creek Enterprises.

John J. “Mickey” McHale

Funeral services for John J. “Mickey” McHale, age 76, of Ruston will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston. Officiating the service will be The Reverend Bill Easterling. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mr. McHale was born July 29, 1937 and passed away January 6, 2014. Mickey loved his God and his church. He was an active member of The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston. He also loved his family and adored his wife.
