Tech professor presents work at Paris meeting

A Louisiana Tech University associate professor of history was one of more than 30 scholars from 14 countries who presented research at the International Colloquium on the Great War in the Illustrated Press.
Laurie Stoff was invited to meet with other researchers in Paris to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I in 1914.
Sponsored by the Center for Communications and Information Science at the University of Paris’s north campus, the event focused on the representation of the conflict in graphic images published in contemporary newspapers and magazines.

Free camps of great value to area youth

Ruston youth have had unique opportunities this summer to hone their athletic skills and, more importantly, to learn a few life lessons as well.
It’s all thanks to the efforts of local sports legends who have volunteered their time to host free one-day camps for young players in the area.
During a time of year when all types of summer camps attract kids and their parents, the Eddie Robinson Sr. East End Football Camp and the Wilbert Ellis Youth Baseball Camp stand out for a few different reasons.

Summer fun both in and out of sun

When you’re a child, summer is supposed to be all about fun.
But isn’t it great when learning is incorporated into that fun, too.
Lincoln Parish youth received those kinds of opportunities this weekend with a pair of free programs that combined fun and learning.
First up was the Eddie Robinson Sr. East End Football Camp at Greenwood Park, where former professional and college football stars were on hand to teach budding young athletes all about the gridiron game.
