Dudley encourages Louisiana Tech graduates to commit to change

They can change the world.
Zazell Dudley, president and CEO of Dudley Worldwide, told the 281 Louisiana Tech University graduates Thursday at summer quarter commencement that they must commit to being the change they talk about.
“We want to bridge change and commitment,” Dudley said. “You can’t have one without the other. If you want change, you have to have commitment.”

Summer Heat yields three more

The Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team has made three more arrests in Operation Summer Heat.
James Anderson Shields, 22, of 3218 Lee Ave., Monroe, was apprehended by police Thursday after a routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 80 for a break light violation.
According to the affidavit, upon stopping the vehicle officers discovered Shields had a prior conviction for marijuana.
Officers reportedly asked Shields for permission to search the vehicle.
According to the affidavit, officers reportedly found marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle upon conducting the search.

Bulldogs to greet fans Saturday

The 2013 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will be on hand Saturday to sign autographs and talk to fans as the athletics department will hold its annual meet and greet with the team on Saturday. Around 4:30 p.m. that day tailgaters are encouraged to start setting up around Argent Pavilion, which will be the site of the autograph session and meet and greet with the Bulldog players and coaches starting at 6:30 p.m.

Shooting for a good cause

Medcamps annual shoot, auction set for Saturday

On Saturday MedCamps of Louisiana will host its 19th Annual Fun Shoot Sporting Clay tournament at the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Center and Public Range in West Monroe.
This year’s event is proudly sponsored by 1st Franklin Financial, Scott Powerline, Glenwood Regional Medical Center, Community Trust Bank, Marsala Beverage and Vantage Health Plan. This is a five-man team event and is open to shooters of all skill levels. There will be door prizes and a shotgun raffle. A lunch will be provided.

Local scholarship winners announced

The Louisiana DARE Officer’s Association held its 22nd annual training conference in Mandeville this summer. Two local seniors were chosen and presented with $1,500 scholarships by L.D.O.A. President Officer Darren Powell of the Mandeville Police Department. The “L.D.O.A Citizen’s Scholarship” was presented to Lori Richardson a 2013 graduate of Cedar Creek who plans on attending Louisiana Tech University.

Football fan frenzy set for Saturday

Area football fans wanting an early taste of gridiron goodness will get their chance Saturday as Ruston High School, Grambling State University and Louisiana Tech University all hold meet and greet events to kick off the 2013 season.
Things will get a little crazy for the Ruston High School football team as the annual Bearcat Madness event will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Hoss Garrett Stadium.

Fundraiser slated for former RHS football coach Reeder

For more than 40 years former Ruston High School football coach Tommy Reeder has led his teams against tough opponents.
But now Reeder is squaring off against his biggest opponent of all — cancer.
Reeder served as a longtime assistant under Red Franklin at Haynesville High School and served as head coach for six seasons at Ruston, guiding the Bearcats to the 1998 Louisiana Class 5A championship game before losing to West Monroe, 32-14.

Five added to Jackson Parish Hall of Fame

The Jackson Parish Sports Hall of Fame held its fifth annual induction banquet recently in the Family Life Center of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
Ryan Bond, Marty Booker, Lee Humble, Sam Ledbetter and Alden Reeves formed the Class of 2013, bringing the total membership to 27.
Bond was an all-district basketball player for three years at Weston High School, all-state two years, averaging 26 points and 14 rebounds a game his senior year.
